The contact owns a 2004 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 35 mph in light rainy weather conditions with the front windshield wiper in operation, the windshield wiper control selector mode failed to disengage the windshield wiper system. The driver shut the engine off and the windshield wiper system deactivated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The vehicle was repaired according to the extended service warranty. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The system did not recognize the VIN. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.
