I rear ended a SUV back in June 2012, when my rear brakes failed a month after buying the car.. I have been replacing sensors ever since. Cruise control stopped working last Friday, along with the horn. Local garage replaced the clock spring, but the cruise control still doesn't work. Drive 58 miles to Wayne, MI for job. Sitting at a stop light on US-12, car is idling at over 1500 RPM. Throttle is sticking, have to mash the pedal to bring the RPM's down. Gets terrible gas mileage. I am running out of money to spend on repairs. Any suggestions, please? Thank you.

We bought a 05 Ford Taurus in April 06 for our daughter to drive when she was a junior in high school. We have had several problems with the car, but nothing as serious as the cruise control problem we are having now. Last January, 09 the accelerator stuck on her when she had to pull out into heavy traffic which absolutely terrified her. Plus there had been a 6" snow fall that day and the plowed street was very slick. She managed to get it to the dealership which was about 3 miles away. She explained what happened and they told her they could look at it in 3 or 4 days!!!!! They didn't even look under the hood. They were treating her as a "little girl" that didn't know what she was talking about. Just to let you know, this "little girl" has grown up around heavy equipment machines, tractors, rebuilt her ATV's twice, has read every hot rod and car manual there is and amazes her guy friends at how much she nows about cars. So don't tell me she doesn't know when her car, that she is in almost 24/7, has something wrong with it. She leaves and calls me, her mom. I'm at work 30 miles away, it took me 20 minutes to get to her house, have the car towed to the front door of the dealership and get nose to nose with the service manager. He decided he could get it in right away and yes the cruise control cable had broken and was wrapped around the throttle body. The car was out of warranty and the cable would cost, with labor, 435.00. (95.00 for the cable and 4 hours of labor at 85.00 an hour) 4 HOURS OF LABOR, are they slow or what. After more discussion with him and the person who sold us the car I reminded them that they had let my teenager drive off in a protentially dangerous car. They assured me it would be fixed free of charge. I left to go back to work, thinking a new cable would be intalled.

WRONG. It was a couple of days before I could get to check it out and they had spliced the cable and wrapped it with TAPE!!!!. I took the car back and they said it was fixed good enough and if I wanted a new cable I would have to pay for it. I left before the cops came. I gave my daughter the 08 Jeep and parked the Taurus in a field. In June I started driving it and there were no acceleration problems. My daughter got a job as a home nurse and didn't want to put miles on the Jeep. She started driving it in September. Yesterday, December 30 she called me and was hysterical. She had started up a hill and the accelerator stuck, she ran into a ditch but kept the car under control and managed to get it stopped, by tapping the gas pedal several times. It happened 3 more times before she made it home. She called the dealership, told them who she was and reminded them of what happened in January. The first thing they asked was "was the mat shoved up under the gas pedal". There are no mats in the car. And being her mother's daughter, she told them where to shove the mats. They told her they could get it in the next day at 2:00pm, but since it was New Year's Eve, they closed at 3:00pm and would probably not get to it until Monday. She has patients depending on her for the next 3 days and can't be without a car. We disabled the cable and are anxiously awaiting the Monday morning visit to the service department.

One more thought, in the 3 1/2 years we have owned this Taurus, except for a 600 mile interstate trip in August 07, she never uses the cruise control.
