My 2005 Ford Taurus has an acceleration problem. It drives and picks up speed on it's own. It have reached speeds of up to 80mph on its own, and RPM's shoots up pass 5 with foot on brake as if its still wants to drive.

My Ford Taurus suffered from unwanted acceleration I.e. speeding up with out pressing gas when I was driving. I managed to put the vehicle in park at an intersection. I noticed that the engine was revving at 4000 rpms even in park. This incident happened again on 7/4/2013 after I fixed up my car once this is a dangerous safety issue.

Hello, I'm submitting this report due to the recent recall of Ford Taurus vehicles with the gas pedal sticking. Please expand this recall to include other years, specifically my vehicle's (2005). On numerous occasions, I have been inching along in traffic or have removed my foot from the gas pedal only to discover that the car suddenly accelerates. I have narrowly avoided a car accident because of this problem. At first I thought it was me, however the same thing happened when my boyfriend was driving the car. He had to press down on the brakes hard and we could still feel the car attempting to accelerate- at a red light. I have discovered tapping on the gas will usually correct the problem, however it is very happenstance when it occurs and is very frightening. Please expand the recall, there are newer years' that are also affected. (as a side-note, I purchased my vehicle used and it did not come with floor mats, so this is not an issue of a floor mat being stuck.) thank you.

Throttle sticks open at 4,000 rpms and will not close unless you spike the accelerator. Assuming the problem is with the design of the throttle body and linkage. Has been acting up for over a year.

I was driving and pulled into a parking lot and my Taurus accelerated and the rpms went haywire and I could not stop it from racing. I slammed on the brakes and it continued to rev up and was very hard to stop. I was terrified. Then the next day pulling into my driveway it happened again. I thought we were going in to the bedroom where my child was asleep. I just bought this car used so I'm not sure if this just started but I'm scared I'm going to die driving this car. All these complaints of the same thing obviously something is defective. Ford needs to recall and fix this before something bad happens.

While driving 35 miles per hour, the cart accelerated on it's own up to 4000 rpms. The gas peddle was not stuck in any way. Had to shift the car into neutral and use the brakes to get the cart stopped. Very dangerous condition!!

I was driving 55 on a two lane highway and attempted to brake as I started down a hill. Instead of braking, the car began accelerating. I was able to pull into a gas station and put the car in park but it revved up to 3,500 RPM. I turned the car off and waited 10 minutes. Upon starting it again, it remained at 3,500 RPM. After hitting the gas pedal and the brake several times while in park, it returned to normal. I turned the car off and it was fine when I started it again. I drove home (4 miles) without incident but I will have my car in the shop first thing in the morning.

Hello, my 2005 Taurus accelerated on its own. My cruise control stopped holding the speed level and then accelerated on its own. I tried pumping the accelerator pedal but that didn't stop it completely. I don"T know how fast or how long the car would have continued like this as I had it under control once I was near the local speed limit of 40 mph. The car eventually came back to a normal idle but then it accelerated on its own again. I was able to stop the car by applying the brakes but as soon as I released the brakes it starting moving again on its own. I turned the engine off and have not experienced this problem since. My cruise control began working again for the rest of that day but now doesn't hold the speed. Is this a known problem" by the way, my car mat is on the passenger side foot area. My oil had been changed and a new fuel filter installed on 06/06/2013.

I was in the process of parking my car and when I put it into park the engine revved up and had to turn off the car as it would not throttle down. The second time I was driving, was applying brakes and started to drive and engine revved up, had to brake and then turn car off. Third time I was starting vehicle and engine revved up, had to turn off. The cruise control cable was replaced on the vehicle less than a year after I purchased.

First noticed that the cruise control was not working. Driving on interstate at 65 mph and the car suddenly started to accelerate. I took my foot off the accelerator and the car continued to accelerate. At approximately 80 mph I applied the brakes hard and slowed to about 60 mph. I took my foot off the brake and the car continued to accelerate. At approximately 80 mph, I shifted into neutral and the engine RPM stayed at 4000 RPM. I tapped the accelerator pedal a couple times and RPM returned to idle and vehicle operated normally. This type of sudden acceleration incident continued to happen on a sporadic basis. The acceleration incident felt very similar to actuating the cruise control accel or resume control. I suspected the issue was in the cruise control system. I disconnected and removed the cruise control cable and the incident has not happened since. The cruise control cable was properly connected before I removed to this is not the same as NHTSA investigation #PE12005. The cruise control cable was not detached and therefore not keeping the throttle from closing properly. My incidents occurred while traveling at a constant speed, the car would suddenly accelerate on it's own. I suspect there is a defect within the cruise control system and the engine is getting a signal to accelerate. Applying the brakes does not stop the acceleration. The only way to keep the car from accelerating is to shut off the engine or shift into neutral and tap on the accelerator pedal.

The throttle is sticking causing the vehicle to accelerate by itself. I was able to slow it down by use of the brakes, but had to put the vehicle in neutral at a stop light and then cut the car off completely as the RPM's immediately went up to 4000, this happened while driving and was not the gas pedal being stuck, and the pedal was clear of carpet or rug, while driving I even stuck my foot under the pedal and lifted it up.

Several times since April 1st, my 2005 Taurus has suddenly accelerated on its own. In order to stop the vehicle I had to constantly apply and then ride the brakes. I also had to put the car into neutral.

As I was driving down the road, I noticed that my 2005 Ford Taurus was accelerating, even though I wasn't actively pushing the accelerator and the cruise control wasn't on. I was forced to use the brakes to control the speed of the vehicle. I was able to maintain my speed at 30 mph, but could tell that I was fighting the car's need to accelerate. Thankfully, I was close enough to home and tried my best to make it there. I used the brake to get my car down to a safe enough speed to turn onto my street, at which point I heard a loud grinding sound. I tried shifting the car into neutral and the car went up to 4000 RPM. I then returned it back to drive and was forced to start circling my block. I called my father and he told me to turn my car off while still in drive. I did this and rolled to a stop in front of my house. While in park, I turned the car back on, and it immediately went up to 4000 RPM. I shut the car back off and repeated the test, with the same results. Upon inspection, we found that the cruise control cable had detached from the throttle cam and was blocking the throttle from returning to its correct position. We removed the cable from the area of the throttle and the engine returned to the normal idling range around 1000 RPM.

2005 Ford Taurus wagon accelerates all on its own. Happens on freeway going 65. Happened while coming to a stop light, brakes had a hard time stopping vehicle. Can get up to 3000 or more RPM's at any given time on its own. Very scary and very very dangerous.

We was driving and the car started to accelerate on its own and continued to accelerate @ faster speed till about 75 mph.. we was going 40 mph on our own to start.. we had to brake the car but it seemed the more we brake the more it would go.. but we did it @ force till it stopped, and squealing brakes and put it in park and the car sound as if I was pushing pedal to floor and I turned it off as is.. so I opened hood went to throttle and moved the cage on it then I heard a click and started it up and it was fine..now 5/20/13 it does it atleast 1 a day and my cousin who is mechanic said put it in neutral and give the gas a little push to get it to release.. and call Ford to see if there's a recall.. I called and they said there isn't a recall to have it service asap because it dangerous.. but my thought is if there is a lot of people with same issue why wouldn't it be on recall due to severity (fordforum.com).
