Earlier in the week, the accelerator pedal on my 2005 Ford Taurus got stuck and would not function. Hitting the brakes slowed the car. When car was put in neutral, the engine raced. I immediately took it to a repair shop and they could not replicate the problem. It worked fine for a few more days, but happened again yesterday.

On occasions, the acceleration (level) does not stop once I take my foot off the accelerator. I have to put the car in neutral gear and pump the pedal once or twice. So far, I have been able to do so; I have not needed to turn off the car while the engine is revved up.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal became stuck to the floorboard numerous, times. The contact was able to avoid previous crashes by shifting the gear into neutral to release the accelerator pedal however, he recently crashed into the rear of another vehicle because he was unable to release the accelerator pedal. There was no injury report. The contact stated that the mechanic replaced the throttle position sensor, but the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,735 and the current mileage was 146,924.

My daughter was driving and the engine went to 4,000 rpms without applying the gas pedal and stayed at 4,000 rpms after she applied the brake, stopped, and put in park. Turned off the engine and restarted moments later with same result. The next day it started and drove with no problem. I found the cruise control cable was detached from its post and I reattached. Now we know why we didn't have cruise control. She was a bit shaken by the experience.

The gas pedal on my 2005 Ford Taurus got stuck and caused acceleration even as I broke fully. This could have easily caused an accident had I been behind another car. I had to turn the car off for it to fix and it felt like it was going to happen again. This is unacceptable the Ford Taurus is a horrible car and should be recalled.

At low and higher speeds the gas petal gets stuck and the engine revs high. I have to press the gas petal down sometimes more than once to get it unstuck.

Vehicle accelerates on own. This usually occurs at speeds of 20-35 mph. Rmps also surge significantly. It is difficult to bring the vehicle to a stop when this occurs. The problem is intermittent.

I was braking to pull into my driveway, and all of a sudden the car's RPM went from normal up to 4500 rpms. When I would press the brake, the car would not slow down, it kept accelerating. I finally put the car into neutral and was able to stop the vehicle.

My wife and I were out driving our 2005 Ford Taurus when the car started accelerating on it's own. I was trying to brake and the car continued to increase in speed. I wasn't using the cruise control at the time, I seldom do, but the cruise control doe's work though. I finally had to break hard and put it into neutral to get it stopped and the engine RPM's were going really high, between 4000-5000 RPM's. the vehicle has done this numerous times since and is highly dangerous! my wife is afraid of the vehicle and don't even want to drive it! this is a very serious safety issue and seems to be a problem for most of Ford Taurus owners on this web site in this year range of Ford Taurus vehicles. A safety recall should be established so that Ford can correct this very dangerous problem. Please don't wait until someone is killed before you do something about it. Thanks in advance!

The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Slowing from highway speed had difficulty slowing, tachometer reading 2400rpm, continued braking slowed the vehicle. At a stop, took car out of gear, engine revved up, tapped accelerator then rpms dropped to 700rpm. Second occurrence happened 3 weeks later in local traffic. Speed without touching accelerator about 40mph at 2400rpm, tapping accelerator petal recovered control. No incidences since but cruise control is now non functional (related?)

The accelerator got stuck while driving. After applying the brake the car was still accelerating and was pulling forward. I put the car in park and revved the engine to try and disengage the accelerator. I put it back in drive and it jerked forward and was still stuck. It finally became un-stuck. This has happened several times since. Ford shows no recalls on my year only 2000-2003 models.

Gas pedal will stick while driving. It increases in speed on its own and rpms spike. It has been happening for almost a year but now it happens almost daily. While it can be stopped by hitting the brakes or putting the car in neutral, this could be very dangerous if it happens in heavy traffic. At times it can be difficult to handle when it accelerates. Too dangerous to have a teen drive and too dangerous to drive our kids.
