Taurus SE V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 71,000 miles

I was driving to Houston. Car was driving smoothly then the rpm goes to 7 and then I pulled over. No movement in vehicle. Just dash saying to check transmission. I am now told it will cost 3K to replace. I will never purchase another Ford vehicle in my lifetime. I was thinking of purchasing a F150, but not now. My Taurus had 71,000 miles only.

Then i called ford motor company they told me the same.Well that just set me off so i was looking on here and found this site plus others . Seems to me ford is having trouble with this year. So i called ford back. told them i was going to send all the complaints i have found on here to the news media .

This has been a pain in my ass, because the car gave me no warning that the transmission was going out are anything. To find someone to fix has been a even bigger pain, because everyone wants to get over. No one wants to fair about the price, I just wish Ford would recall these cars and save people the headache, because they knew the transmission weren't any good when the cars where made. I suppose it's going to take putting them on the news and reporting them to better business bureau or just complaining to the president that they don't need any bailout money.

Taurus SE 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,000 miles

Yes I have a problem with the Ford Taurus that I have. I just don't understand this car. I wanted it to stay in first gear, not go into second, third or overdrive. When you press the gas, the RPM raises hell; luckily the reverse is still in tact. I had it scanned at the shop and the code #PO732 came back...whatever the hell that is. I mean this damn car is so sensor sensitive until you don't know what the problem is. So I had my filter and fluid changed and new sensors put in and it still won't work. The check transmission light came on at 58,000 miles...it's still a 'new car', only 5 years old.

Come on Ford! You can recall these cars. Be a good sport and make us Ford Taurus owners happy. Put a smile on our faces and stay out of our pockets.

Taurus SEL 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,500 miles

I too have had transmission failure on my 2005 Taurus SEL. After checking online and talking to local mechanics, it seems that this is a problem for this vehicle and others in the same year and model. I was told by a Ford service manager that Ford IS aware of the problem but is not doing a recall. I WAS a true Ford man until now. I will be switching as soon as I can. I am out $1,800 for a problem Ford is aware of! What BS!

Update from Jun 8, 2010: After SEVERAL email attempts to Ford, they refuse to budge on helping out any of us with complaints about this problem they have. I have given them links to this and other sites showing the outrage people are having and they STILL could care less. This was their last email to me.

"As previously communicated to you on 4/29/2009, we feel that every consideration has been given to this matter. As such, we feel it was appropriately addressed in our response. Based on the information you have provided and the data that we have reviewed, our decision remains the same.

We appreciate the fact that you are a loyal Ford customer and we apologize that we are not able to give you a satisfactory answer. We thank you for the opportunity to address this concern. On behalf of Ford Motor Company as a whole, we regret the circumstances which caused you to write. We hope that we might have the opportunity in the future to restore your confidence in our products and service."

So, Ford could care less about your problems and I STRONGLY suggest you purchase another brand when the time comes AND let Ford know of your decision. Good luck to anybody who tries AND succeeds in getting help from Ford, because after all the emails I have sent, I couldn't get ANY help.

Now I know why the car was so cheap when I bought it in 2004. Same trouble as many others have reported here - transmission failed with very little warning. Glad my infant was not with me and I was fairly close to home. Second and last Ford I will own.

Taurus

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,000 miles

I bought the car with 25,000 on it from an authorized dealer. All the records of up keep were included. At 45,000 the air conditioning needed to be replaced. Thank god for the extended warranty! At 55,000, the engine light went on and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I had a tune up performed, but that still didn't fix the problem. It was concluded that the dip stick on the transmission blew out??? Then, at 61,000 the transmission went out, but thankfully the warranty was good until 70,000. Of course, the one that they put in was rebuilt and it sounds like crap, and you can tell that it is about ready to go out again.

Taurus SE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,000 miles

I was driving down an intersection with my foot on the gas, and suddenly nothing. I got the car to coast off of the road and into a parking lot where I turned the ignition off, then on again car but I could not change any gears. While trying to get it into gear and idling, a whining noise started. I had no warning whatsoever to this problem.

This is the second Ford vehicle I have owned and had problems with the transmission. The buyers think that this is such a good car, and the dealership lies and says how reliable these cars are, but in fact they are not. The dealer only gives about 36,000 mile warranty. That alone should probably warn other car buyers to stay away from the Taurus. You would think that this car would more reliable; I have seen government cars that are Ford Taurus'! Ford needs to do better by its' buyers.

This has put me in such a bind I have to find a ride to work and 2 kids that I also have to find a ride to school. It is hard for me as a single parent to find money for a car that is worthless and still make payments on it.

I have a 2005 Ford Taurus that for the most part has been a pretty good car. Except late in 2008 the transmission starting slipping from 2nd to third gear. I couldn't believe that a three year old car was having this problem. Ford won't touch it under warranty so now I have to foot the bill for a new or rebuilt transmission on a car that I still have a damn payment on. I will never buy another Ford product.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 84,000 miles

Just think about this : I have 84,000 miles on my Ford Taurus which are highway miles. The transmission failed on 02/28/2009 without any prior difficulty driving the vehicle. The fix to this problem cost 1700.00 plus tax and the dealership tells me there is no warranty. I see when I log in to this site that there are other complaints about transmission for the 2005 Ford Taurus. The cost to fix this problem along with the economy is devastating to me along with the fact I lost days of work because of it.Who ever heard of a vehicle's transmission failing with that amount of mileage. This mess has caused a real meltdown and I will never purchase another Ford product again.

my son and i was going through a intersection then suddenly the car wouldn't move but it was still running. we manager get out out of the intersection and off the road. he put it in park and reverse nothing happen,it just sit still. it sound like the other complaint that read that might be wrong with my car. it only has 60,000 miles on and only had it almost a year. Right now it is at the garage getting look at.we did not get any warning on iit; I think with all these complaint about the same problem that ford would do something about it. my husband said he might go and talk to a lawyer about it since he seen all the other complaints. If it wasn't for our credit and he would tell them to kiss his ass and come and get it. the other problem we had this summer going to Florida the air conditioner blow out on us .

Taurus SE 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 52,600 miles

Owned this Taurus for almost 5yrs and has less than 53000miles on it. My work place is 10 mins from my house and started having problems half way on the way back. Low oil pressure appears on the screen and the car would not go more than 20 miles. The whole engine started dragging. Finally management to make it home and call for a tow truck. Got to the repair shop and went for a full inspection. Results : transmission failure. It was a complete shock to me. Just got a oil change 2 weeks ago and now it died on me. Thinking that the auto shop has not done a detail inspection on it..got a tow again to auto transmission shop. The manager told me has to disassemble the transmission and find out what went wrong and what he can do to save some parts. Waited 2 days and he called back. Transmission 2nd gear clutch is burned out. Torque converter is blown out. He has to rebuild the transmission...clutches...and other stuff. Order auto parts to replace most of it. Anyway, lots of work has to be done on this pc of junk. Total price : $2480 + tax. 3yr warranty and 36,000 miles warranty. After reading this site, realize that Taurus is a pc of junk and ford has such poor customer service. Seems pointless for me to call them n complaint. They will only transfer me around. Ford sucks big time... and a pc of sh*t!! I will never ever consider buying their car again. I HATE Ford!!

Taurus

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,000 miles

Young widowed friend of mine at work had the transmission go out on her '05 Taurus 2 days after Christmas. This poor lady had been taken advantage of at the dealership when she bought the car about a year ago. Paid way too much money for the car in the first place but was told it came with a FOREVER WARRANTY on the power train. She was driving home from work around 1 in the morning and the car simply stopped. Had it towed to the dealership where she bought the car thinking it would be covered under warranty. They told her that they wouldn't honor the warranty because the routine maintenance was done at her local mechanic shop instead of with the dealership, Luther Ford in Homer City. They have treated her very badly. Car has been out of service since then while hunting for a used transmission. She has had to pay for a rental since then (which she certainly can't afford on the wages she makes). Service was to be performed according to the owners manual but the manual they gave her was for a 2000 model and not for the 2005 she purchased. Certainly says a lot about Ford and the Luther Ford dealership in Homer City Pa, doesn't it? Just makes you want to run right out buy a Ford from them.

I bought my 2005 Ford Taurus with less than 10,000 miles on it in 2006 and with less than 57,000 miles on it now I am told that I need a new transmission. With all the complaints listed on this site you would think that Ford would do something for their loyal customers because this is obviously an on-going problem. They need to warn all owners of this vehicle that their vehicle could be a safety problem.

Taurus LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,200 miles

I went to get my tires replace and the auto store did a diagnostic test on the car. They discover a few transmission problems. We though they was trying to make a bigger sale. Over five months later during the moving out of apts. while driving I notice a sound and difference the drive of the car. When the car shift to second gear the it stick there and until it can slide into three gear. When you stop or slow down you have to wait until it slide back up to third gear which sometime takes a while. I took it to the mechanic and he has had the car over a month and a half trying to figure out the problem of the transmission. First time the second gear was gone and he replace it. Second the senors from the engine to the transmission was not working properly and he replace that. Third the air flow the the transmission was off and he worked with that. Fourth another part had to be replace on the transmission. Now it is the electric wiring of the transmission. I do know if he will ever get it fix right. Some like we are chasing a problem with the model of transmission on this DAM FORD. I had a 36,000 miles basic warranty or expire 2009. I only had the car for a year and a half and the transmission goes out before the 100,000 mark on this car. That is why you find a FORD IS ALWAYS DEAD ON THE ROAD, BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO "FIX OR REPAIR DAM CARS DAILY!!!!!!!!!" I SUGGEST YOU SAVE YOURSELF AND NOT BUY THIS DAM CAR!!!!!!!!

Taurus SE V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

I was heading to Kansas to see my guy friend all was well. I had the cruise set and was 2 hours into my drive when topping a hill the car started to slow down I assumed it was just a steep hill that required a little more gas when I hit the gas the rpm went way up and it sounded like I was gunning it in neutral. I pulled off the side and was nearly ass ended by the vehicle behind me. There I was in BFE with no transmission. I had to get towed which ended up costing me $225 and had to sit at a truck stop waiting for a ride to drive 2hrs to come get me. I hate Fords. The car is a piece of junk and I am afraid to see how much this is going to cost me to fix, but what choice do I have? Ford won't take it back because it's not covered by warranty.

Taurus SE 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

As it seems I have the same problem as everyone else. Me and my 5 year old daughter were coming home from shopping. The car had been working perfectly fine, I was stopped at the stop sign coming off the exit ramp. When I turned left, the car made some kind of rambling sound, (kinda like if you were running over the center line a.k.a to wake you up if your falling asleep) then it made a loud noise, then it wouldn't go anywhere. It was in drive and wouldn't move. Thankfully I was on a hill so I drifted down, to kinda get down off the road a little more. I was pulled over, so I turned off the car. I started the car back up, and tried to put it in drive. It went nowhere. It wouldn't even let me go in neutral, I couldn't even get it down in to first gear. This BLOWS!!!! Here I am with a 5 year old setting on the side of the road, right where people speed past, and I am pregnant. Thank you FORD for making such an excellent car, all the safety features and none of them matter cause the car is a piece of sh*t, transmission wise. The best thing of all this is I still have 2+ years to pay on it, those car salesman really get you. we had it towed to a shop, $60.00 bucks to go a couple of miles and the best news of all it will be $2846.00 WOW. Like most people in America I have enough money to pay my bills and spend a few bucks here and there, not $2846. Let's sue ford......
