Taurus 6/3.0L

  • Automatic transmission

So of course it was pouring rain when car just stopped moving. Had it towed home & checked on line for possible problems. It appears to be the transmission. Will get it to mechanic tomorrow. Dread the news after reading all the complaints here. Not a big fan of Fords right now. Will update.

Taurus SES 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 181,000 miles

My original transmission failure complaint is listed as #157. In May of 2013, my transmission failed without warning as I was making a left hand turn through a green light. My car gets towed to a garage and they rebuild my transmission.

Fast forward to August 28, 2014. The check transmission light comes on. Since it is no longer under warranty, I have to pay for another transmission. I go to a different garage on September 9, 2014. I get my car back a week later and for four weeks everything was fine.

Then, one day on my way to work my car begins to shake and shudder and I cannot go faster than 20 mph. I drive straight to the garage and they give me a loaner car to drive.

Three weeks later, they still have my car and I still have their loaner car. The owner finally gives up on my transmission after rebuilding it twice while he had it at the garage. Every time he would test-drive it, the check engine light would come back on and wouldn't go past 20 mph. He eventually put in a compatible transmission, and so far things have been fine. I really hate my car. A total of four rebuilds and then finally a different transmission to get my car to go.

Taurus SE V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

Grandson going to college in Elgin, Ill and purchased our old 2005 Ford Taurus with about 140,000 miles on it now. Driving on freeway and car slowed down and stopped. Pulled to side of road and restarted but could only go about 45 MPH and got home. Called Ford dealer and set up appointment to look at it. Dealership charged $243 to look at the car and said would be 2-3 thousand dollars to repair. Resale value about $2,500. Dealer wasn't helpful in lowering the price of service. Liked it because of using ethanol fuel and have another and have no problems on either after about 130,000 miles on each. Transmission shop would charge $500 to look at it and apply to the job which total about $2,200. Get rid of Taurus as transmission problems seem to be common.

If only I had known about this website before buying that peace of junk...Like to so many people with that car, the transmission failed. Had to put out $1500 to fix it (half of what I paid for the car). Sucks a lot.

This IS SAD, I've HAD THE 2005 Ford Taurus SE FOR 3 YEARS. Maintained well, ran great, out of nowhere I went to back out of the driveway this AM and it started to go in reveres then stopped. Engine was running fine, no matter what gear I put it in it wouldn't move. No indicator lights came on. Then My wife said tonight when I tried again she heard a clunking in the back when I put in gear and tried accelerating.

I find that weird cause it's a front wheel drive vehicle and a u-joint shouldn't or catalytic converter, or whatever, shouldn't stop a car from driving, it would just be loud. I don't know what's wrong but I can see the problem is transmission and Ford. The fluid is fine so I am clueless. I was considering buying a new Ford within the next 8 months but this has changed my mind, this piece of crap is likely to end up in the junk yard if they will even take it. Damn Junk yard is too classy for this polished turd.

Ford should really do something for us, I can see they've lost tons of customers over this. Pretty sad when your Ford stops moving and some Jap crap blows past you with a check engine light on. I had a Honda once and the check engine light was on for 20k miles before I got it fixed, never a problem and I wasn't forced to fix it, it still probably would have drove.

Car had been driving ok until this morning...drove away and transmission check light came on...won't shift into gears..high RPM's and of course low speed because engine might overheat...I assume fix is going to beat replacement....used to think ford was the top brand for American auto builder, but not anymore.

So I took over the payments on this pos from my x-wife so my 17 yr old had a ride because he graduated from school and joined the navy last year. I just sent the last payment in 2 weeks ago. 3 weeks ago the ac unit went out in it. The cruise hasn't worked in a year.

So I'm taking my daughter to see her half sister graduate from 5th grade and half way there we stopped to get gift, got back in car and got on highway and, you guessed it, just revs up and no movement, stranded on highway . This was my first Ford and you can bet this will be the last.so is it the converter or the tranny itself, anyone know?

I WOULD HAD LIKED SOME KIND OF WARNING. i'm driving down the road going to my house, i feel a surge like when u step on the gas suddenly, but didn't think anything of it, i pulled into my driveway. i ran into my house for a moment, got back into my car, pulled out of my driveway, and started down the road. Suddenly i find my car won't shift into 2nd gear, the engine rpms go up and the speed stays the same. so i turned around went home and called a tow truck. here it is about a week later and i find out i have to replace the transmission. Tomorrow i start calling to hopefully find a used one, but if it's the same one that just blow 2nd gear how the f.... can i trust it out of a junk yard. a f....3 year old car with a used transmission. Would had been nice if it had slipped, or the fluid was actually burnt, or a light on the dash say check transmission, like the check engine light that seems to come on on any auto every year just before it needs to be inspected, at least something ignoring, but nothing, fluid that looks like it just came out of the bottle, i can't smell it i have sinus allergies that kills the ability to smell slit smells.i have 2 years left to pay on it and now i have to get a loan to fix it.
