My husband was driving my 2006 Ford Taurus to work one crisp fall morning, when all of the sudden he heard a loud sound that he at first thought to be a gunshot. What had happened was that the rear window glass had shattered all on its own. After further inspection he noticed that one of the little black heaters that are connected to the glass to work the rear defogger coils was melted to a piece of glass. We are inclined to believe that the rear defogger mechanism failed to auto shut off after the window defogged and over heated which in turn over heated the cold glass (it was chilly on this morning) and caused it to shatter. We are just thankful that no one was sitting in the back seat at the time this occurred and was injured by the shattered glass.
