problem #2

Taurus

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,980 miles

I purchased this car used with 59,500 miles in 2009. I had no problems until August 2013 and nearly 70k miles. It began when I had the car idling at a stop sign. There was an alarm, the engine light came on, the abs brake light came on, and check brake system light came on. The alarm was constant and loud. As soon as I was able to accelerate, all warning sounds and lights ceased.

This continued to happen irregularly, but became more constant until I was able to get the car into the shop. My mechanic scanned for codes, tested fuel pressure, etc., road tested, inspected wiring under dash, but found nothing. And of course the alarm and engine and brake lights wouldn't come on for him. Murphy's law.

For some unknown reason, he must have wiggled or bumped something, the car has run fine until now, nearly a year later, and now at 76k miles. All the alarms and warning lights have started again with a vengeance. The engine has even shut off while the car was idling.

The one constant seems to be that this only happens when the car is idling and I have my foot on the brakes.

Any help out there? It goes to the shop in the morning to try again for a fix.

Taurus SE V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 95,000 miles

I have had my car for almost 5 years now. Normal wear and tare problems. In March 2013 my computerized place where it shows mileage beeped and said "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM". It worried my a little. Thought well its time to change my brakes. I had my brakes changed and bled. Thought that had taken care of the problem.... until the next day when the alarm went off again. I have had it hooked up to a computer 3 times! First time it said my brake system was fine. It didnt show any problems (even though the light was still on when they did the test) Light came back on 2 hours later. Took my car back. Second test said "Continuouse Memory Use" so they said that had nothing to do with my brakes. Had to take it back next day because my brake pedal was getting closer and closer to the floorboard when I pressed them down to stop. Put on computer a 3rd time...... Said it could possibly be my ABS Moduel, Master Brake Cylinder, or Wheel Sensors could be thrown off of their fixed time. NOBODY can tell me whats really wrong with my brakes. Everything except the 3 above mentioned items are new on my brakes. I believe Ford should re-call these models and fix the problem. I know of 5 other people having the same problem I am having, in the same county as I live in too. This is really uncalled for.
