Car engine accelerate on own. Tac meter shows over 3,000 RPM when I put it in neutral. I have to tap the accelerator and it goes back to normal. This happens about once a week now. I was slowing down for a stoplight and it happened. Brakes were not enough. Almost hit a car. Only by throwing into neutral allowed me to gain control and stop. My mechanic couldn-??t find anything. I cannot allow anyone else to drive this as I am the only one familiar to handle it. I-??ll probably sell it on a trade. I-??ve read dozens of reports of this but no recall. I am surprised. Around 6pm I was driving down a residential street (25 miles speed), in motion, all of a sudden the car just turned off. Luckily I was able to steer to the shoulder. I noticed all dashboard lights on, my gas pedal was not working, but the A/C was still working and the radio. So I know it wasnt my 1 year old battery. I waited for 30 seconds and turned the key and it restarted again. My fiance, our 4 children and I were in the car at the time. 70% of my driving is freeway..this is our only car and im deathly afraid of this happening while im on freeway. I believe the engine is faulty on this year/model/make.

So now when I try to reverse my car doesn't move and if I hit the gas the engine just Ram up and makes a loud noise.I have got stuck so many times to the point where I can't move...also my headlights and high beams look the same there is no difference and you don't even know when the high beams are on the light in the car doesn't come on..my A/C a and heater only works on high.I can't get on the freeway the gages go up to 4 and go down when I'm going 65.when im on the regular street they still go up hight and I can be going less than 45.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that there was a leak of transmission fluid from under the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a transmission fluid leak and when the vehicle was turned off the fluid leaked into the motor. The mechanic diagnosed that the trans-axle vent needed to be replaced along with a 90 degree vent stem small hose with clamps. The 90 degree vent stem prematurely fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Driving on a freeway at 70mph when I let off the throttle but the car continued to accelerate. Came to a stop light after exiting freeway and had to slam on breaks to come to a full stop because the vehicle throttle would not stop accelerating. Checked for a rug or anything that might be stuck under the gas pedal and nothing was there. Once I arrived at the destination I put vehicle in park and the engine reved up to 4000 RPM. Opened hood and throttle was not stuck but after I moved the throttlebody to rev the engine it returned back to a normal idle speed. This is freaking dangerous. Dont buy this piece of crap car.

The fire department extinguished the fire and the entire vehicle was burned. A police/fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed. I was driving through downtown when I noticed increases acceleration and trouble with stopping. When I put my car in park, it would rev up to 2500 pm. I would stomp on accelerator and it brought it down to normal below 1000 RPM in park. Thankfully I avoided having 3 accidents. I was about to call for a truck but did not. I managed to drive my car back to work. My co-worker looked at it and saw the throttle was sticking and cruise control cable came off. He was able to reattach it and fix the throttle. A week after he fixed it I started to have some acceleration issues but minor and today it finally got worse. I looked on here to see if other people having the same issue and yes I did find a lot of people with same issues. I do agree with a lot of those people that this should be a recall. I can't afford to get it fixed by a professional or a new car.

About a year ago our Taurus started to experience sudden accelerations. It would go from 40 to 70 with your foot off the gas. Had to pull over, put in neutral, and stomp on gas peddle. This has happened several times with the last occurrence July 15, 2014. Mechanics can't figure it out. Car is too dangerous to operate. This needs to be recalled.

The car suddenly began to accelerate and was difficult to stop. I put it in neutral after I got to a place where I could park. The engine accelerated to 3000 RPM and I turned off the ignition. I attempted to start the car again and engine again rose to 3000 RPM. I checked to see that the accelerator was not stuck to the floorboard. Then started the engine again. Again it revved to over 3000 RPM so I pressed the gas pedal and then the idle returned to normal. Once I got on the freeway to return home the cruise control would not engage. I called the Ford dealership and they stated they were not aware of any recalls on 2006 Ford Taurus for acceleration problems.

My wife was driving our 2006 Ford Taurus and suddenly the car started accelerating out of control. She was able to slow the car down by braking firmly and eventually the car stopped doing it. We did not drive it the next day. Two days later, I was driving and braking for a red light when the car aggressively accelerated again. Only by slamming on the brakes did I avoid hitting the car in front of me. I put the car in park and turned it off and on again, but the engine was still racing out of control. I turned the car off and on again and pressed the accelerator quickly up and down and this stopped the engine from racing. Since that time, the car has accelerated more gently (without any pressure on the accelerator pedal) twice, both at highway speeds. Both times, mashing the accelerator seemed to temporarily relieve the symptoms. I am going to call Ford, although I doubt they will do anything for me.

Intermittently throttle will keep rising and the car will not stop unless shifted to neutral and acceleration pedal pushed to dislodge stuck throttle. Brakes will not stop throttle from rising unless steps above followed. First time this occurred, I had to fight the acceleration with the brakes causing my engine to smell like burnt rubber until I figured out the trick of taping the acceleration pedal when in neutral.

Vehicle has failing camshaft synchronizer chirping from engine failure began at 30,000-32,000 miles Ford refuses to honor emissions/extended defect warranty on part if part fails, it drives the oil pump, which will result in a sudden loss of engine power, and will require complete engine replacement. Vehicle has lower end of mileage for its age, long and thorough maintenance history contacted Ford, they had no interest in providing assistance total vehicle mileage as of 3/13/2014 is ~49,000 miles will be taking legal action.

In drive position, the engine speed 400rpm higher than usual. Sent my car to 2 diff workshops. No vacuum leak, no dtc. Changed iac valve. Yet still not fix the issue. Problem happened several times recently. Fault can be recovered if drive long time in low drive.

I was driving to work and the vehicle accelerated out of control. I tried stopping the car, I put it into park, and even while in park it was still revving up to 4 or 5 thousand rpms. I re-started the car hoping this would "re-set" the vehicle. No such luck. As for now, the vehicle's gas pedal is either stuck, or something is wrong with the cruise control cable. Either way, the situation, in my opinion, is extremely dangerous. My brakes began to smoke before I could get the vehicle home and wait for my husband to help me figure out what to do next.

Purchased the car in late August 2012. Shortly after purchase car would rev high on cold starts, when placed into gear car sometimes would die. This was not a consistent problem and difficult to describe and identify the issue. By the end of December 2012 the problem became consistent on each cold start. Took car into Firestone. Firestone replaced idle air control valve and cleaned fuel system. First attempt to replace air control valve failed when they believed the new part was defective. Replaced new one with another new one and the car started fine for about a month and went back to inconsistent start ups. Took car back to Firestone. They again replaced air control valve and the problem still was present and I was told to take to the dealership. Took to the Ford dealership, they stated the most recent air control valve placed by Firestone was defective and they replaced air control valve with Ford exclusive part. Picked car up and upon leaving the car suddenly accelerated on its own. I turned the car around and had them look at it again. They could not duplicate the problem or determine what caused the sudden acceleration. Two weeks later the problem appeared again while driving on the highway. I would lift my foot off the gas and the car would accelerate to 60mph before I applied the brake to slow it down. To keep a consistent speed I would have to "ride the brake". I internet searched the problem and came across an article describing the exact problem I was having and that it was under investigation for 2005-06 Ford Taurus for sudden acceleration most likely due to cruise control cable catching on the throttle. Told Ford dealership what I discovered, took the car in and they identified that the cruise control cable was in fact catching on the throttle.

When driving the car even at speeds of 45 miles per hour it dies. No lights for flashers no power steering no power brakes. It does start back up but in the mean time I am in moving traffic. I have had it in the shop all week they have executed many tests and cannot find the problem. The last time this happened I had my 3 yr old granddaughter in the car and I believe this is very dangerous and could cause a rear end collision.
