Overheated on the side of the road, had it towed, and found out that water pump had failed. Normally this is not a big issue, 200 to 400 bucks and you're back on the road. Turns out that the water pump is driven off the timing chain, and that filled the timing cover with water, which caused the overheat. The fix was to drop the engine out of the car to do the water pump. The pump cost was 180 bucks, the repair was 12 to 14 hours of labor totaling 1600 bucks. I ended up not fixing it.
