2010 Ford Taurus. Consumer writes in regards to unintended vehicle acceleration. Consumer also states that the brakes and steering wheel would not work. The consumer stated the vehicle accelerated and flew through 5 lanes of traffic, hit a high curb and crashed into a parked car.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 60 mph with the cruise control activated, a deer jumped in front of the vehicle. The contact swerved to avoid the deer. The contact continued to drive the vehicle and the stability traction control warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.

On 4 occasions over a 2 month period my Taurus failed to accelerate immediately due to what had appeared to be the traction control powering down the motor, minus any flashing lights etc. I would pull up to a stop sign, and attempt to accelerate and I would lose all power for approx 2 seconds and then my car would slam into gear and take off (always on dry clean pavement). I at first dismissed this issue to being a sensor going bad for the ABS system. I later found that during that time same period the speed control would intermittently stop working at various places and times on straightaways or turns without regard to what speed it was set at, however this did not happen to myself but a relation who was borrowing my car on occasion. The latest issue was when I attempted to pull away from a stop light 4 nights ago and it felt like either my car was in much too high of a gear, or if I had been driving a manual transmission I would have sworn that the clutch had gone bad and was slipping horribly. I released the accelerator and placed the car into manual shift while coasting under 5mph. My Taurus lurched and slammed into first and then when I began to accelerate I placed it back into drive and it shifted fine on its own. I'm headed to the dealer later this week and am hoping to have this issue resolved quickly and easily after having found the service bulletin for this issue on here. I still don't get why this isn't a recall when so many people have had an issue, thankfully I purchased an extended warranty and I'm covered, oh and my Taurus has under 47,000 miles on it so it's not like I've got a zillion miles and this issue popped up, ugh. My 2010 has had several drive train issues. The trans has been fixed a few times which took many returns to the dealer before finding the issue. After that at times the car accelerates on it's own from a stop. It's done about 7-9 times. I took it to the dealer where I bought car and they can not duplicate the problem. 3-4 times it took me in to an interchange luckily no one was coming until yesterday. I left a restaurant and moved the car about 20 yards came to a stop and immediately it started to accelerate. I was only less than 10 feet from the road. I felt it starting to accelerate and pushed down harder on the brakes but car surged in to road and collided with another car. I know I'll have a problem with Ford on this...plus my insurance cost will sky rocket as well. I need help!!

I have experienced problems with my Taurus for three years beginning with the bad brake system, leaking moon roof, and now the trottal sensor performance system. The brake started with cable not releasing with the brakes are applied causing a rubbing noise which avis Ford still claiming they can't see or hear anything, next, the roof leak and replacing of the noisy air condition system that was replace and still has some knocking when the system is turned on. Third the car was required by the dealer to go through a computer upgrade with has cause the car to have performance issues. My car is at the dealership today for not execellarating. I was driving on Saturday with my two grandchildren under 4 years old and my car stop working, leaving me stranded with the children. The RPM lost power and the car would not drive, although the gears were working. I have always been a Ford owner, but with the multiple issues I have had with my Taurus, my desire is to go with another company and bid Ford farewell forever. Each time I take my car back to the dealership they continue to tell me that the issues are normal wear for the 2010 Taurus with the mileage of 88000 miles. I have been having issues with my car since before 36000 miles and the issues keep adding. Ford Motor Company should be responsible for the products they design and put on the road. I have seen other Taurus car that have not had half the issues my car has experienced over the past 5 years. Ford needs to buy my car back and replace it with a more reliable vehicle that does not have a million issues. My car has regular scheduled maintenance and still has issue after issue, that avis will not resume the responsibility to just creating a bad vehicle. This is my last Ford car, I will by elsewhere moving forward. I am a disappointed Ford customer, and I am not happy with Ford service.

While driving on the expressway near dearborn, mi, my 2010 Ford Taurus began to increase in speed on its on. The last time I looked at it before I crashed, the odometer was at about 80 miles per hour. I could not stop the car by pressing on the brakes. I was getting close to other cares, so I turned to the right to avoid a collision with another car, so I hit the guard rail and the car rolled over. Thankfully, I was not hurt and no one else was either. My car, of course, was totalled and based on Michigan law, I also received a ticket.

This is the second occasion in two weeks. One surge occurred from a full stop and the ABS brakes didn't stop the vehicle before bumper impact. Second accident was when I was traveling 20-30 mph and went to stop and the car surge with the ABS foot pedal pressed as hard as possible. The ABS brakes made a noise 3 times before impact to rear bumper / spare tire. In addition I have complained to my dealership the last 3 service visits that the right side of the front brakes make a grinding noise sporadically when braking. I have also experienced loss of power while on a highway (very scary).

Acceleration stalls from 0-5 mph then is followed by a harsh bump on take-off this car is very dangerous it will stall upon down shifting while merging into traffic for as long as 6 seconds. This causes traffic behind me to take avoidance maneuvers. When passing it will do the same thing taking 3 to 6 seconds to start accelerating. When I pull out to pass it falls back a full car length before it makes up its mind to accelerate. Very dangerous, it will do this at 30 mph through 70 mph.

While driving at speeds of 55 mph, the collision warning symbol illuminated on the instrument panel and within one half mile, the vehicle stalled. On a separate occasion, while utilizing the cruise control mechanism at 65 mph, the "driver intervention" and "collision warning" symbols illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle stalled again. He was able to restart the vehicle within a few minutes. The dealer was contacted and the failures could not be duplicated. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The contact stated that the cruise control mechanism was controlled by a sensor and when the vehicle came to close to a preceding vehicle, the cruise control sensor would slow the vehicle down to avoid a potential crash. The contact stated that the "collision warning" light was to advise the driver when this was occurring. The dealer installed a recording device in the vehicle and advised the contact to utilize it the next time there was a failure in the vehicle so that they could record exactly what may have caused the failures. To date, the vehicle was in possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 2,520.
