The contact took the vehicle to montrose Ford (3960 medina rd, fairlawn, oh 44333, (330) 666-0711) and the computer was reset and dtc codes cleared however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (steering). The approximate failure mileage 122,000.

While leaving a parking lot, the electric power steering on my Ford Taurus stopped working. I was not able to turn sharp enough to stay in the intended first lane of traffic and went deep into the second and almost third lane. Luckily the person in the center lane was able to move to the left to avoid a collision. There is a recall that describe this as (15V340000 or Ford 15S18) but Ford says it does not apply to my vehicle though the description is identical to what happened to me. I believe that the problem this recall describes is not limited to the scope of vehicles Ford claims as problematic.

So I took it to two different Ford dealerships and they said that wanted over $150 to even look at it and tell me if it would throw any codes. My 2103 Ford Taurus lost the power steering while my wife was driving yesterday on a county road while attempting to make a turn. Luckily she was able to fight the steering by muscling it to get the car under control and off the road. Two notices now appear on the dash. 1. power steering assist fault and 2. service advance track. I have been told that many Ford vehicles including many but not all 2013 Ford Taurus have been recalled and repaired under warranty for this known safety condition, however the local Ford dealer tells me that my VIN number is not covered by this recall. I feel that since this is a verified known problem and a recall notice for this problem exists that all 2013 Ford Taurus with this known critical safety issue should also be included with the recall. I think that the recall # is 15S18.

When you start the car, occasionally a code comes up power steering assist default and the steering wheel locks. There is a recall 15S18 for this problem for my exact car, make, model, and year. However when I have the VIN number checked, my local Ford dealership ( lithia springs, ga) say my car is not included in this recall. My car is having the exact problem the recall identifies, but Ford will not pay for it because my VIN number is not in the recall. My mechanic identified the recall and the exact problem with my car. I have not received a letter and I went to my local Ford dealership and they said my car was not included in the recall after checking my VIN number and has not been repaired previously for this problem. I am frustrated because I am having the exact problem the recall describes and I am fearful of driving the car because recently the car stopped in my subdivision when I was turning on to the main road. That is, the steering wheel locked and I had to turn the car off and restart it. This has only happened in the past when I initially started the car-in my driveway. My mechanic has said it is 'the steering control mogeal fault & the steering angel fault' and the recall specifically describes 'the affected vehicles have electric power steering assist system that may shut down as result of a steering motor sensor failure. Consequence: If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash'.this also can happen on the road and cause a potentially serious accident. We cannot drive the car now because we are afraid we will be killed or maimed if it happens outside of our subdivision. Please help.

My warning light showing "power steering assist faulty" showed up about a month ago on my dash, I couldn't steer left or right. The wheel was very hard and scary too. I cut off the engine and restarted, and the warning went away. Same month, another warning showed up saying "service advance trac" and went off by itself. Two days ago the 29th of September, 2020 I drove my vehicle to work. At 17:05 I left work and started my engine, I got on the interstate and both lights came back at the same time. Power steering assist faulty, and service advance trac warning both came on. I couldn't steer left or right, neither could I use the blinker. These was the most scariest moment of my life as I almost crashed my car. I deployed my best driving skill to get my vehicle home without killing myself or hurting anyone. I made it safe to my parking lot, turned off my the engine and started it again, the fault was still there, the steering is very hard to turn left or right. Dealership said it's my power steering motor (racket pinion) and have to bring it in for replacement. The cost of replacement is ridiculously high and I cannot afford it. I had other professionals look at it, they diagnosed same thing. My vehicle is too young to have such life threatening malfunction. Lots of complainants have exact similar situation from the research I've made. Cost of fixing my car would break my bank. I don't have it and left with no option but to leave the car in my parking lot until I can figure what to do with it. If Ford is making vehicle to kill us, we need to know so we can at least increase our life insurance and buy casket waiting to die all because we bought our own death. This is the scariest driving experience ever. Now I have no vehicle, but left with options of rentals and doing whatever it takes to get to work. Not nice at all.

The 2013 Taurus has right at 60,000 miles on it and is maintained regularly at the local dealership. I've never been notified of this recall for the steering epas system failing, but it happened last week. Without notice or warning, as we backed out of the garage, the vehicle lost power steering capability and turning it off and restarting did not fix the issue. As I pulled back in the stability control warning light came on indicating failure of that system as well.

I I purchased this 2013 Ford Taurus sho AWD twin turbo about 3 yrs ago used from the first owner so I'm the second owner. The car was in perfect condition. No accidents super clean totally loaded except no nav and screen controls for all the other cell phone apps and I even went for upgrade from sync 2 my touch w/no nav to the newest sync 3 3.5 from a 2018 vehicle changed everything it works great. I can tell the car was taken care of by him he put very nice tsw wheels and very expensive Continental contitrack tires that are abut $300 a piece weathertech rain guards mats front and rear as well as the trunk.it was such a beatiful car. I bought it in the summer, when winter came all the problems started front suspension creaking struts no more back up camera working but fuzzy and upside down.and to replace it $300 now and this is the kick in the ass my wife was driving with my 2 newborn twin grand daughters my 6 yr old niece as well as my 88 yr old mother just exiting off a jug handle thats how you make a left turn in the state of NJ, and it's a circle well she straight into the divider blowing out both front tires and cracking the left front rim and bending the right one. Lower front bumper valance as well as damage to the under carriage.I thank god that my family wasn't killed.I'm furious and I may be taking legal action holding Ford personally liable the recall with the steering needs T be taken care of by Ford always on its not drivable and unsafe

Power steering assist fault came on I was fortunate that it happened when I was stationary in a driveway and not very far from home. Steering is locked and it's incredibly difficult to turn either left or right. I called Ford recall # and I was told my car doest fall under recall coverage because the month it was assembled was when they swapped to using another steering rack despite my vehicle having the exact same problem specified under recall 15S18. I'm unsure why they would swap steering racks midway through the '13 model year unless they knew they installed faulty equipment.

The vehicle was not drivable and remained parked in a parking lot. No dealer was contacted. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (steering) as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

While driving on hwy.10 w. at approx 70 mph, the wheel became stiff, my service power steering light flashed, the wheel locked, causing me to veer into the traffic of an 18 wheeler. Unable to control the vehicle, I ran off of the embankment of the nearest exit. I tried to add power steering fluid but there was no reservoir. I googled a local repair shop who advised me to take it to a Ford dealership. Stranded with no steering, this created an enormous amount of stress, I am a cancer survivor, my life flashed before me. I was 8 miles from a Ford dealership, I took a back road and creep at 10 miles an hour with no steering. $139 for diagnostic and $2500 for repair; I declined the repair as I have been in cancer treatment for the past year and now covid19. Through the grace of god, steering resumed; I continue towards my destination, los angeles, ca, suddenly the steering went out again arriving in redlands, ca, again swerving recklessly pushing me into traffic on both sides of my vehicle, veering me off of the road onto an exit where I was nearly rear-ended and sideswiped by vehicles exiting hwy 10 w. Ford in the redlands asked for $2,500 only now I was provided with information concerning a recall on the power steering on the year, make and model of my car. I was told that my VIN was not covered. I was instructed to take it to the Ford dealer in the city of san bernardino. They reset the computer the power steering began to work again, they did not know for how long. I immediately canceled my trip to los angeles to get myself and the vehicle back to safety. I made it to the Arizona border, the steering went out again; I was thrown to the right side of the road nearly crashing into several cars. I called aaa, towed car to glendale, AZ, sanderson Ford, 90 miles out. I nearly lost my life due to the faulty power steering unit. Power resumed but was very stiff.

Power steering stopped while my husband was driving his vehicle from a parking lot onto a busy road. The blinkers also do not stay on and have to be held down while trying to turn a steering wheel with no power. This is obviously very dangerous! the error codes that came up are U3000-49, U3000-96, U3000-72, U042081, U046B-86. There is a recall on 2013 Ford Taurus but for some reason our VIN is not listed in the recalls, however we are having the same issue as discribed in this recall. Ford is refusing to help us get this resolved and telling us that we must pay for the cost of something that has already been reported on 2013 vehicles. Recall code 15S18. It appears Ford is not taking responsibility for their poor product and selling a vehicle that is quite frankly lethal and now undrivable.
