Territory Police Interceptor 3 5

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

The vehicle made a "whooshing" noise when turning left and right for a day or two. It sounded as if the wheel was rubbing against the splash shield. While driving down the express way, the Service Steering sign came on the dash and Service Advancetrac. The steering wheel immediately locked in the straight position and it wouldn't move with all of the strength I could muster with both hands. Once I realized that the vehicle was not going to turn, I slammed on the brakes to stop. Since the steering failed, we went head first into a concrete barrier and my girlfriend had significant head injuries and lacerations.

I checked Ford's website and searched recalls by Vin number. My vehicle has no recalls even though it exhibited the exact symptoms described in the recall. I am in the process of figuring out how to move forward. I am unsure if to buy a new steering gear and have it installed... or if there is someone to talk to at Ford to help rectify this issue. I had no idea this was possible in a car. You would think that the engineers would design a fail safe to prevent us crashing into whatever is in front of us when the steering fails and locks on us.
