While driving on dry street at 35-40 mph had car in front of me come to a sudden stop. I applied brakes and they did not stop car. Pedal felt hard and there was no activation of ABS. Steered van towards curb and reached for emergency brake but struck rear of other vehicle. No skid marks. Extensive damage to van. Insurance company totaled vehicle. State safety inspection was current and brakes had been checked by a mechanic within the last few months. Have had prior issues with brake wear. Had to replace first set of brakes at about 8000 mikes. Dealer states that it was "normal wear and tear". have also had issues with fuses for electric windows blowing and signal and brake light bulbs failing constantly. All occupants were restrained but 13 year old female in rear seat struck head on B post and suffered concussion.

My initial problem was traction control. If you slip coming out of a driveway and you hit gravel, mud, snow, rain your traction control will stop you in the middle of the street and you cannot drive. Kind of a problem with cars coming right at you. Problem 2 is that this seems to also affect the wheel bearings and cause premature failure. I am going on my second replacement at 72,000 miles. Problem 3 is that when the wheel bearings fail they wear on your rotors and I am now also needing to replace those also. I certainly hope that this gets addressed soon. This vehicle is not only a safety hazard it is also a money pit.
