Purchased this 2017 Ford Transit Connect as a Ford Certified used vehicle a few months ago at a Ford dealership. The vehicle has not been driven much in the past 8 weeks due to stay-at-home order for the COVID-19 pandemic. Drove the vehicle on a short 2 1/2 mile round trip. last Tuesday, no problems. Went to drive it on Friday, NO ELECTRICAL POWER to anything. Unlocked door with key, when door opened no dome light, nothing on dash illuminated, power door locks and windows would not work. Passenger doors could be opened using inside door handle, but could not open rear door into cargo compartment.
I inserted key into ignition switch and turned it, no response. Transmission lever would not shift out of PARK with foot on brake pedal. Brake lights did not illuminate when brake pedal depressed. Thinking it might be a discharged battery, but a battery tester indicated it was not discharged; nonetheless connected battery charger, and battery charger indicated that the battery was fully charged within 20 minutes. The vehicle would not start when a jump start was attempted from another vehicle. Vehicle had to be towed to Ford dealership service department and sat there until the following Monday, when they found the same problems.
In trying to diagnose problem, service technician disconnected and reconnected the battery. Upon reconnecting the battery the electrical systems started working again immediately, and the vehicle started normally with the key. It seems to be a fault with the power control module (PCM), but dealer service department does not know how to further diagnose or to fix it. I am reluctant to take the vehicle back because I do not want to be stranded again if this problem recurs randomly. Vehicle is still covered by the original 3 year 36,000 mile warranty which was extended with a Ford Certified 12 month, 12,000 mile used car warranty. I am wondering if others have had a similar problem and if others think that the PCM might be defective.
