I've attached an image of what needs to be done with the throttle body getting gummed up. There is a breather hose that runs from the rear of the valve cover, curves over the engine and down onto the intake accordion.. This breather hose is drawing in oil form the engine which runs down into the throttle body thus cause the throttle body flapper to get stuck open or closed. In order to fix this we'll be investing in a "Catch Can" attached along the hose line. This catch can will gather up any waste entering into the hose via the rear valve cover. The main issue here is when you come to a stop, and accelerate from that stop or attempt to accelerate into traffic.. the throttle body flapper would get stuck cause the van to bog down or even stall.
A catch can has never been installed on a Transit Connect that we know of and this could be something other connect owners should do. But the Ford Focus guys have already done this to their cars.. But their installation is a bit more difficult than the Connect. They have to remove the exhaust manifold in order to access the breather hose. The connect breather hose runs along the top of the engine and is easily accessible. Look into adding a catch can to help reduce waste and oil being pulled down into your valves.
