I was crazy angry that my rear axle broke. I submitted pictures to the organization in Washington that tracks problems. (NHTS?) A friend convinced me to get it welded. $353. A month later Ford recalled the rear axle. I submitted my welding receipt around labor day and GOT MY CHECK TODAY (OCTOBER 13, 2010) FOR THE FULL $353!!!! Awesome! FIND YOUR RECEIPTS!!!!!

Ford just announced a recall on rear axles that snap in half, now they need to recall for the rusted sub frame problem. My car is no longer driveable - lucky for me I wasn't driving at highway speeds when this broke away. An independent repair shop quoted $1800 to repair. I see many Windstars still on the road, and I'm just wondering when this part will break when someone is doing 65 mph, god forbid someone could really get hurt if Ford doesn't act quick. Everyone who owns a 1998 to 2003 Windstar should file a complaint at NHTSA, that will put more pressure on Ford to do the right thing

I have never had any luck with Ford's, all the fords I have had, always would have major problems with them, and now one of the worst yet. While driving down the road just a block from my house, the car made a boom sound, the engined died and the steering went out. Thank God this happened while just a block from my house and not traveling at a high rate of speed. Now just the weekend before this happened, my fiancee her daughter and I just traveled about 2000 miles roundtrip from my home. Just think if this would of happened while flying down the highway at 70 miles hundreds of miles from home. VERY UPSET!!!
