Windstar SEL 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 113,000 miles

Well maintained, piece of junk. 92,000 mile, new tranny - 112,000 mile, new engine, water pump, fuel pump, fuel relay switch. Auto door locks don't work correctly, cruise control won't work. HVAC needs new blend door, ford wants ton of money for this. Well designed dash must be completely dismantled for this simple repair. Brake/ABS warning lights occasionally come on, Ford dealer says brakes fine, can't figure out why lights come on. My 1990 Maxima was totaled in a wreck in October. Wish it had been the Windstar! The Maxima had 225,000 mile & ran like a clock. Of course I bought another Nissan (NOT A FORD) to replace the the Max.

Windstar LX

  • 40,000 miles

The windstar I've learned has a long history of engine problems, Ford has agreed to fix the 94-95 models (7/100,000 extended warranty), but I haven't found any info or help for any later models. I have a 2001 with 40,000 + miles on it and blown head gaskets a common problem with 3.8 L engines
