Well I was taking all my foster care children on vacation. The first vacation for some of them and we got 1/2 mile from our house and we smelled rubber. Then we began wobbling from side to side. the children began to get nervous. I finally had to put our emergency lights on because it was getting really bad and we had no where to pull off at. A vehicle almost hit us from behind and the kids and my mother who just had open heart quadruple bypass surgery 2 weeks ago were scared. Finally I had to pull off in a turning lane risking our lives even more. I had to just leave the van there and we had to cancle our vacation. The front coil spring had broken.

This really makes me mad because it ripped our brand new winter tire and we had to be towed to repair shop. At highway speed we could have been killed. I think it should be covered on warranty.

This afternoon I was going out with my husband and three small children. We got a few hundred feet from our house when we heard a bang. We got out and discovered that our 5 month old tire was completely flat. My husband started to remove the tire to put on the spare and once he got the tire off he discovered that the drivers side spring was broken in two and had pierced our tire causing the deflation. The vehicle is obviously not drivable and we are waiting till morning to find a shop to have it towed to. I am not at all impressed - apparently this was a recall on older model Windstars. I guess they didn't fix whatever the issue was after all. T
his is the last straw with this vehicle - we've already had the transmission rebuilt as well has hundreds of dollars worth of other smaller repairs. I am ready to be done with Ford forever!

My son was about to drive away from church(a new driver on his permit).I had just sat in the passengers seat and we heard a big pop.The guys at the church changed the tire and told me that I wasn't going any where because I had a broken spring which had punctured the tire.My brother fixed it for us 2 days later and did both the front springs.I know if we had taken it to a shop,it would have been astronomical to get fixed. If we hadn't replaced the drivers side it would have gone soon also.It had rust in the middle of the spring. My brother doesn't understand why they didn't break on the ends.He thinks that it was a manufacturers defect. The price I put up was cost and labor of one spring, which you won't be able to get at any shop.It is a pretty scary thought that we could have been on the freeway and have this happen. Now I am not very trusting of the back springs and am wondering how much longer they have.
