I have had my van for going on 5 years. When I first bought it, it was fine even great then last year Ford recalled my van. 2002 Ford WINDSTAR Recall ID from NHTSA: 09V399000 some vehicle speed control crap!!! 3 days later my O/D light starts flashing I can't figure out what is wrong with it. I take it to my mechanic and he can't find a problem with it. So I continue to drive it. I then start having problems with it shifting funny when it is going in and out of O/D only when the light is blinking. I take it to a transmission specialist and he can't find anything wrong with it. The code it is putting out is an incorrect 4th gear ratio code .I take it to 2 more transmission specialists who can't fund ANY problem what so ever with 4th gear or any other problem it only slips when O/D light is blinking. My cruise control won't work and I keep blowing the computer fuse!!!!!!! So I go back to the Ford dealership that did my recall work and ask them if they did anything electrical to my and They reply with a rude "NO" .... REALLY!?!?!?!? Because that is not what the recall says!!!!!!!! (FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS THAT DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS IN LINE WITH THE SCDS) So Anyway I keep driving the van with all of these problems that no one can tell me how to fix. So the other day my husband took our son to school, came home, and hours later takes my brother to work the van runs prefect. A few hours after that I run out to get something, get to a major intersection, stop at the light, and poof!!!!! Absolutely nothing!!!!!! The van is running but won't go ANYWHERE!!!!!! No reverse, no drive, no nothing. It was making this awful whining noise but other than that nothing to indicate anything was wrong other than it just wouldn't go anywhere!!! I get the van towed to my house and it has sat there for 2 month's!!! We are hopefully getting it fixed in 2 weeks but we STILL don't know what the real problem is. We are pretty sure it's the transmission at this point but, it could also be 1,000 other things. At this point I realize my hubby was right we should have just gotten the Honda Odyssey!!!! But I was a Ford girl. I always owned Ford's not anymore!!!!! If I have to replace my van it most definitely WON'T be with another problematic FORD!!!!! Oh and BTW my aunt and uncle had the same recall work done on their 02 explorer guess what! Their 4WD light started blinking!!!! 2 transmissions later and it still isn't fixed!!!!!

Less than 3 months after paying for a rebuilt transmission, my transmission failed completely. Luckily the rebuilt came with a warranty but what a PITA to have the van die AGAIN. It happened in front of our house, so I had someplace comfy to wait for the tow truck.
After some complaining, the dealer agreed to pick up the cost of the rental car.

This pisses me off so bad because I just got the damn van.

The van was fine when in reverse, when it was shifted in to drive it didn't move. It sounded like it was still in neutral. Tried to put it in reverse and it didn't work. I tried putting it in 1st gear and it finally moved. Parked the bastard in the driveway walked away.

The vehicle shifts hard and makes it very difficult to drive. Every time the car is in motion the transmission is really hard to shift on hills, let alone flat ground. Never have I had a vehicle where, no matter what the make or model, this been such a problem. Ford is a constant issue with their vehicles and I will never purchase a vehicle from this Manufacturer. I now see the TRUE initials of what FORD is. (Fix em Or Repair Daily) This issue among the Axel and the Subframe recalls are just supporting facts that FORD is no vehicle for a Family.
