Acadia 6-cyl

  • 32,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph, proceeding to make a right turn. A complete loss of steering power occurred without warning. There was difficulty steering the vehicle which resulted in excessive force being applied to the steering wheel. The vehicle proceeded in operation with caution. The failure was consistent. The vehicle was taken an authorized dealer on four separate occasions for the identical failures with the replacements of the power steering pump. The failure mileage was 32,000. Updated 05/11/10. As I was driving on a major highway, I hit a water puddle with the right front wheel during a rain storm as I was about to make a right-hand turn into a parking lot. As I began the turn the power steering stopped working. Had I not slowed down to make a turn, I would have hit a car in the parking lot, but I was able to avoid it, because I was going so slow at the time. I had all I could do, to turn the wheel and keep from hitting another vehicle. I called "onstar" and reported the problem. They asked if I wanted roadside assistance. I said I would wait awhile and see if it would work later. About an hour later it worked, but was whistling and groaning. I was able to make it home. The next day (Sunday) I took it to the dealer and they didn't see anything wrong. They advise me to call the next day for an appointment, which I did. It went in to the dealer at 10:30 am that day. Apparently there as a service bulletin about that problem and the fender liner/splash guard has been re-designed. A recall or letter notifying owners may prevent a serious accident.
