Acadia 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,340 miles

Went to the GM garage to have oil change and check squeak coming from front end when I go over bumps. They checked it out and said that the steering box was shot, all the liquid was gone and has been for a long time. I said that is weird my parents had it in here years ago for that noise when they turned the steering wheel back in 2012 and you said it was nothing. Going to cost $1600 to fix. Very upset, they probably didn't want to fix it under warranty.

Took my 2010 GMC Acadia in for a repair on the seat track and was told that my steering gear is leaking all over the place and it'll be $1500 to fix. I googled the problem and found that there was a class action lawsuit to GM for this very same issue. Waiting to hear from a lawyer about the status of this lawsuit. NOT happy. Next vehicle will NOT be a GM, that's for sure. I knew I should have stuck with Ford!!!

Acadia SLT-1 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,100 miles

Brought my 2010 Acadia in for A/C not working and while up on the hoist the mechanic said the steering gear needs to be replaced. Said on a scale of 1-10 it's about a 5......what does that mean? How long before I am driving 70 mph down the highway and my power steering goes out? I am afraid to drive the thing now and he said it would be about $1700 (just an estimate, you know it will be more) to fix.

This car is barely 6 years old and has 69K on it. I see so many complaints about this! How does GM get away with this? Just fix the pump? not the gear that is causing the issue? I LOVED this car when I first got it. Now I hate it more every day and don't feel safe. Shouldn't a car last more than 6 yrs for $42K?? Always bought GM vehicles...not any more.

Acadia SLT 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 101,289 miles

Well got this car in November and in Jan could not steer. Was told steering was leaking and had to get replaced. Warranty covered some, but I am still out $1200. Almost got killed on road. GMC needs to look at this. Now I have a whining noise I can't get rid of. Can any one help?

Update from Mar 15, 2016: Had to replace steering again. Bad noise in it. The steering on this car is going to kill some one.

Acadia SL 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

Driving to mobile company when my car suddenly started shaking and flashing a note on the dash board.. "service stabilitrak" and immediately went into engine low power. This was in the middle of an intersection over a freeway. This is so dangerous. GMC should take responsibility because the car should be programmed to give you time to get off the road. The dealer wants to charge me $1100 to replace the power steering rack. RIDICULOUS!!!!

This is obviously a problem everywhere. The power steering rack is dangerous and should be listed under recall because it is clearly a manufacture issue. The dealerships are offering an extension for the power steering pump but that's never the issue. It appears that everyone that owns these trucks have to pay at least $1200 out of pocket for the gauge and alignment. I've done extensive research and this is a problem across the globe. I am very disappointed in GMC for not owning this problem. I understand that there is a class action law suit going on and I am hoping to be reimbursed when it is all said and done.

Since I became aware of the steering rack leaking problem I've learned a lot. A GMC dealer quoted a price of $1000 to replace rack. Mister Tire (repair shop) quoted a price of $685 and other repair shops with quotes in between. As far as the price for the rack itself price ranged from $245 to over $600. Labor cost and add-ons $400 to $500.

A friends son works at a Chevy dealership as a mechanic. From him I learned the Chevy Traverse has the same problem. Which he said has the same steering and they have replaced several. Some under warranty and others, some that screamed loud enough at no charge.

After doing research on line as well as this site. It appears to be more then an isolated problem. I believe it is time for GMC to look into this. Maybe a recall is in order as it is with power steering pumps that are leaking. It's a pricing fix and a little to common!
