Acadia Denali

I am very concerned about this noise that has become louder and louder over the past month. I cannot afford $1000 + dollars for a repair.

Acadia SLT-2 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 16,226 miles

I first noticed Squeaking/whining in the steering column about 5 months ago. Mileage at the time only about 16,226. Acadia not driven much since retirement. I sprayed silicone in opening where steering wheel is attached to column. Of course did not help. Vehicle now due oil change, took into dealership & ask to check out this problem. Mileage now is 17,948. Diagnosis, Power steering gear (rack & pinion) leaking & must be replaced as well as vehicle alignment. Estimated cost: $1432 plus tax. Was told No warranty coverage and no recall by GMC. Even though this is a common problem w/this model & year, which indicates a design or engineering flaw from the beginning. Because there have been no death related to this problem, GM is not going to recall or cover the problem AS THEY SHOULD. Let the customer complain and foot the bill. This turns me against GM, as I now think - What other problems are they going to ignore and not cover? ? Have to think twice about buying another GM product, as I am sure many will do that are experiencing this same expensive repair problem that the manufacturer should rightfully cover... Thank you very much. Jim S.

Acadia SLT2 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,000 miles

PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 1 MONTH AGO FROM A DEALER IN CHILLICOTHE OHIO. GMC IS SUPPOSED TO STAND FOR HIGHER QUALITY. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS, STEERING WHEEL BEGAN MAKING A GRINDING, RUBBING NOISE WHEN TURNING OR WHILE NOT DRIVING, TURNING THE WHEEL SIDE TO SIDE.

LOOKED ONLINE AND UNFORTUNATELY FOUND PAGE AFTER PAGE OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME SYMPTOM. LOOKING UNDERNEATH, ALL STEERING MECHANICS AND BOOT WERE SATURATED WITH FLUID. PUMP RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. CALLED GMC AND NOTIFIED OF PROBLEM. STATED "THAT IS A SPECIAL WARRANTY ITEM AND WILL NOT COST YOU ANYTHING". CALLED LOCAL DEALER AND TOOK VEHICLE OVER. THE ONLY THING COVERED IS THE PUMP AN FLUID. THAT IS THE CHEAPEST PART. THE RACK AND PINION IS NOT COVERED OR ANY OTHER MECHANICAL PARTS. $1650.00 WAS COST QUOTED.

LUCKILY I HAD EXTENDED COVERAGE FROM WHERE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. I CALLED GMC BACK, AN QUESTIONED THEIR INTEGRITY AND WHAT ABOUT OUR FAMILIES SAFETY. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM. THEY SAID THIS WAS THE CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILITY. SOUNDED LIKE POLITICAL PROMISES, WERE THE BEST SO BUY US, WE STAND FOR SOMETHING, HIGH COST AND DISREGARD FOR PUBLIC SAFETY.

ANYONE WITH THIS YEAR, TAKE TIME TO GO TO A MECHANIC OR NEXT TIME YOU CHANGE OR HAVE YOUR OIL CHANGED GET THIS LOOK INTO. COULD SAVE YOU OR YOUR FAMILIES LIFE. I AM WAITING FOR A CALL TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED, HAD TO GET THE PARTS ORDERED.

Acadia SL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 44,000 miles

We just bought this Acadia and it made this whirling or rubbing noise during the test dive. The dealer said it was just a seal that needed greasing, well they greased it and it still makes noise (it's been a week). I did a Google search for this problem and there are TONS of people with the same problem saying they had to replace the rack or steering column and other things. Me, along with thousands or others, are so surprised it's not a recall. It the power steering goes out you have to manually crank the wheel which could cause an accident.
