About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
My power steering pump is failing and my car is jolting forward when moving from a stopped position. The power steering is whining and has been for 6 months. The technician at my car dealership said it is a known issue, so why hasn't there been a recall on it? I travel highway a lot and fear for my safety and the safety of my children.

Shortly after I purchased my Acadia 2 years ago my power steering pump started whining. When the belt or pump gets wet the power steering itself goes out unexpectedly for a few seconds. I have had the system flushed thinking maybe just air bubbles... it would be good for 2-3 days and right back to its same routine again! its irritating reading everyone else complaints with their 13' Acadia power steering issues and GM has still not done anything about it.

The steering wheel has a telescoping adjustment that claps when you press down on the steering wheel also it comes up without even using the button to move it. If I am driving down the road I can pull up on the steering wheel or push down on it and it clapes on it's own.

While coasting up to a redlight the car engine lurched and stalled shutting off. This left me coasting with no power steering and no power brakes. Very scary. I was very fortunate I didn't hit anything. We have since found out this is due to a GM known problem with the torque converter. GM has a service bulletin acknowledging this problem. Tsb 13120A

While driving on the highway, power steering suddenly failed making driving the vehicle difficult and dangerous. Turning in particular was severely compromised with no warning or indication of an error.

On multiple occasions now, my car has flashed "traction control off", "engine power is reduced", "service traction control", "service stabilitrak" while in motion at various speeds and has occurred most recently just prior to a curve that caused me to drive into the opposite lane because the engine shuts down causing no control in the steering when these lights come on. When the car is at a complete stop, it is then put into park and the key is turned to the off position and has had no consistency of if it will restart or not. If the traction control symbol is still on the display, it will not restart. It has been into the GM dealer it was purchased from with scheduled evaluation of the problem and they state there is not a problem with the vehicle and no codes stored in the system for them to evaluate this problem. The malfunction indicator lamp symbol will stay on or go off on its own at no specific rate. This is a huge safety concern that has caused my vehicle to stop unexpectedly while driving 55mph down a state route and limits steering ability when this failure occurs causing my vehicle to go into the oposite lane on the road. I did record the dash indicator lights after the vehice was at a complete stop partially on the road while still in drive for the dealership service department to view these on the display and I also have the copy of the service department paper that describes there were no repairs completed due to no failure during scheduled appointment on 2/9/17. The malfunction indicator lamp (check engine light) was still on the display when vehicle dropped off in the evening before the scheduled service. Upon pickup on 2/11/17 there were no indicator lights on the display. I am unable to put the mph or estimated miles in the alloted space on last incident on 2/15/17 so am adding here; I was driving about 35mph and there was about 98,170 miles.

My vehicle has completely shut off 4 times in the past 2 years while driving, thank god there was no accident. Also my power door locks have locked and unlocked repeatedly by themselves without pressing any button in vehicle or key fob. The locks will go up and down until I shut the car off and then restart. The locks has happened 6 times. Also, my electric power steering gear(rack) needed to be replaced at 30000 miles. There were 2 recalls one for airbags and one for seatbelts. This vehicle is unsafe and frankly dangerous, thank god it never shut off on a highway. I have brought it to two different GMC dealer service centers and they can not diagnose or recreate the problem which means they cannot fix these problems. I don't know if this is isolated to just my vehicle or this is a problem related to this particular model and year car. I do not feel safe driving this car, please help us. Thank you.
