Steering completely stopped, couldnt steer vehicle while I was driving on HWY with 6 High School Football players inside coming back from a scrimmage. All of Our safety was put at the utmost risk, as we were traveling at HWY speed of 65 and had to maneuver in between traffic to get the vehicle off the road without being hit by oncoming traffic at high speeds. We dodged several accidents during this incident. Let alone putting the lives of the 7 of us and several others on the road. Problem has been declared by a professional Auto Diagnostics Dealer in town, as my vehicle is at, diagnosis is failure of steering rack and pinion, which caused the replacement of powersteering pump, hoses, serpantine belt and reservoir replacement. So far.... The vehicle did not give any signs, signals, or any noises were heard to let us know that there was any failure issues regarding this dangerous incident.

The contact's daughter owns a 2014 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while his daughter was driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's daughter was able to pull into a local Pep Boys where the power steering fluid was replaced. There was no further information provided. However, the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

I purchased my 2014 GMC Acadia Denali July 29th, 2021. It has been back to the dealer five times, with repairs not being completed. Within weeks of purchasing it, the Service Air Bag light came on, and won't go off. The low tire light came on. The serpentine belt broke and had to be replaced, and the power steering pump started making horrendous noises and leaking fluid. I bought an expensive service contract, and of course these repairs are not covered. I also had them repair tires twice, and ended up having to replace the two front tires, after being told there was nothing wrong with them, except one had a screw. They also said that tire rotation was causing the lights to go off, and wasn't reset, and supposedly they reset it to reflect where the tires are on the vehicle in relation to the TPMS's. Well, two tires lost air constantly, and there were numerous leaks. I finally took the vehicle to a real tire store for tire replacement. The estimate for the driver's side airbag system replacement is $1400 pre-tax, and the power steering pump replacement is $1100, pre-tax. So within two months, I've had nothing but trouble; spent $380 on two new tires, and will have the cost of these repairs on top of the extra $2200 I spent on a service contract. The vehicle is beautiful, and seemingly was well-maintained, but it immediately began breaking down. I've had very limited use of it since July 29th when I bought it. (it's now October 6th, 2021). I have a meeting with the owner of the dealership tomorrow, October 7th, at the suggestion of the dealership's repair manager, as well as the salesman.

While traveling approximately 75mph the Service Traction Control light came on followed closely by the Low Oil Pressure Stop Engine Immediately light. We attempted to travel to a more safe area along the interstate. Within seconds the engine immediately shut off causing the loss of power steering and power brakes. The steering wheel locked in place causing the total loss of steering control. We were able to bring the vehicle to a safe stop, I would attribute this success to my being a Defensive Driver Instructor and Transportation Safety Professional. The risk associated with the issues we were faced with could have easily ended in tragedy especially at this speed (75 mph, 80 mph zone) The diagnosis of the vehicle was inconclusive due to the number of codes that were shown. The vehicle was no longer functional and had to be replaced. No documentation, other than the bill for towing is available. Diagnosis was done at no charge.

While driving coming to our destination stop, at bout 1000ft left, my 2014 Acadia just started shaking, and misfiring and losing power. On the steering column, the notification states, traction system light came on, and check engine light. We then came to a complete stop and put in park, then started driving again and went off after 2-3 minutes. Then powered off and check engine light remains, and others off.

45,000 miles. 2014 Acadia slt2 AWD. Power steering failure. Fluid driven power steering is failing, loud whine noise from hydraulic fluid pump. Fluid is full. Steering is very hard to turn, no power assist especially at slower speeds or at a stop. Slightly better if raising engine speed above 2500 rpms

My SUV that I like very much recently started having issues while turning. After researching online it seems that this is an ongoing issue with GMC Acadia models. This could easily cause a wreck and is a safety issue when driving. Since there are alot of reports for this issue I thought that there would be a recall, unfortunately when I searched my VIN no recall was found. There are alot off issues with this model and problem therefore it should be covered by GMC.

Power steering failed - no dash light, dip stick hidden under plastic engine shroud, no fluid showing. Almost caused serious accident while making a right turn at intersection then failed completely on the next turn to the right. Now the steering without the pump is seriously difficult to turn, especially at slow speeds or going down hill.

On March 15, 2017 our 2014 GMC Acadia spontaneously lost steering power assist as I was making a turn at around 10 miles per hour. The vehicle regained power assist 15 to 20 seconds later. For the next several miles, it appeared to lose the power assist only when at low idle and otherwise drove fine. I did some research on-line and this problem appears to be somewhat common for this make and year but I cannot find any recalls for it.

I was driving on the freeway with my 4 children in the car. As I was exiting the freeway I suddenly lost all ability to steer my car. I was almost hit by a big rig because I did not know what was happening and no indicator light was displayed on my dashboard. The car was almost impossible to steer at slower speeds. I was put in an extremely dangerous situation. My car only has 45,000 miles on it. The dealership says my warranty is only good for 36,000 miles. Research has shown this is a very common defect with GMC Acadia vehicles and they have not issued a recall and the problem seems to occur just after their standard warranty ends. The steering pump is defective and the cost to fix is over $2,000.

While driving around a corner on either side, the steering wheel has a jerk and roughness to it. Fluid checked out within the operating range. Shortly thereafter a leak started on the right side next to the power steering pump/rack and pinion. Mileage is around 43000. Huge safety concern after reading about the steering issues that others have had.

I was driving on I-10 for around an hour when my steering wheel made a slight turn to the right and completely locked up. The road was wet so I didn't want to slam on my brakes. I was trying as hard as I could to try and turn the steering wheel but couldn't. I tapped the brakes 2 times and then had to slam the brakes as hard as I could or I would have hit other vehicles. My car started spinning and then crashed head into the guardrail. I hit the guard rail so hard it ripped up the concrete and bounced my vehicle back into the interstate. Another vehicle pulled over and was trying to help me get my car off the interstate but neither of us could get the steering wheel to turn. It was still locked up turned to the right. My husband was a few vehicles back and he pulled over and was also trying to turn the steering wheel to get my vehicle off the interstate. After yanking on the steering wheel and tires as hard as he could, it finally made a big pop and then the steering wheel and tires were free so we could turn the wheel to get my car on side the road.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. In addition, the steering wheel and the brakes failed. The contact also stated that the heater motor fan increased in temperature and the radio volume increased. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.

Twice in the past week I have had the same problem with the stability track sensor turning off while driving. When this happened the engine power decreased. When trying to get the vehicle off the road, it was like I had lost power steering because it was a fight to turn the wheel. Prior to this we have also noticed that when the vehicle shifts gears, quite often it is a very hard shift to the point it shakes the whole car and feels like it is stalling. Not sure if that is a transmission issue or something to do with the fuel injection.

At about 53,000 miles the power steering starting making a loud whining noise and a grinding noise when wheel was fully turned either direction. The power steering stopped working when the vehicle is at a stop of slow speeds and makes a buzzing, whining sound all the time. The steering feels very unstable when at freeway speeds winding around any corners. I feel this could be a serious safety concern due to the loss of power steering and the unstable steering at high speeds feeling like you are going to lose control of the vehicle on a curve.
