THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURANCE WITHIN A MONTH AND IT'S FRUSTRATING. I GET TO WORK AND CAN'T SWITCH THE CAR OFF. I CAN'T EVEN LOCK THE CAR. I NEED A FIX AND GMC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING ME AND ALL THE OTHERS ONE. IF ANYONE HAS A WORKAROUND I'D APPRECIATE HEARING IT? I AM ORIGINAL OWNER.

Have owed our 2018 GMC Acadia for two years. The car has been in the shop 7-8 times for various issues. 4-5 of the occurrences were for the "shift to park" issues. First they replaced a wiring harness. Second time they said it was fine when you reset the check engine light (That made me mad and I made them checkout the car entirely, the next occurence they replaced the gear shift mechanism and now it's having the Shift to Park issue once again. They are telling me it's the wiring harness to the ECM? Will send update when I get the car back.

The "Shift to Park" is a dangerous error. The car thinks it's in park and goes to in safety mode on teh engine which reduces engine power. I was pulling on to a busy 4 lane highway and car would not accelerate above 20mph. I quick jumped in to the grass on the shoulder. I restarted the engine and was able to speed up; but, I had to feather the gas to get the chart to shift up in gears. This is such a danger situation that I've asked our dealer (who I've bought three GMC's from in two years) and they want to offer me $10k less then I owe on this car. I had purchase the extended warranty and maintenance package which they will not credit back to help get out of this car.

At this point, I'm in escalation mode with teh dealer, GMC and my former trusted dealer to see who will step up and help me; Running away from GMC as fast as I can. My Sierra and Canyon have had transmission issues in their first 30,000 miles. Such crape. New cars are nightmares. I want my 2001 Jeep Wrangler back. They best car I've ever owned.

I shift to park, the doors unlock and the dash indicator says "P". Shut the engine off and immediately starts to ding saying Shift to park. Tried everything from shutting off while in drive and then shifting to park and nothing seems to work. The vehicle is definitely in park though.

Acadia 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 53,250 miles

Once destination is reached and the car is put in park, the screen states “shift to park” even after the car is turned off. Inevitably, we cannot get the car into “park” (shifter is physically in park). No amount of wiggling, giggling or pushing/pulling the shifter will get the car in park. We manually have to turn off radio and turn off lights before exiting the car. Once we leave the car, locks will not lock with the fab. We need to lock using the push button on door handle.

If we don’t turn off radio/lights, they will keep playing until it times out....annoying as______!

I didn’t realize how many other people have the same issue until I researched online...I would like GMC to own up and issue a recall to repair.

Acadia Denali Awd

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

I noticed that when I Shift to Park it says Put in Park. I have to move it back and forth, slam the shifter, turn the car on and off. Sometimes I just leave it when I have to drop my daughter off at daycare. Seems to get worse the colder it gets. When it was extremely cold out it happened all day! Not sure if I should let them know, because they cant seem to fix or just get a new car. I am not thrilled with my GMC in general.

Acadia SLE 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,855 miles

I will park my car and it will continuously beep and message states "SHIFT TO PARK". I have had to push the gear shift, trying to get it to stop. When that doesn't work I have to restart the vehicle and put in reverse and place back in park to get it to stop beeping and for message to go away. Cannot get out of car unless message stops in order to lock the doors. VERY ANNOYING as I am in park and it is not recognizing that it is. This vehicle was very expensive and is only a little over a year old since I purchased. Not happy about having issues already.....

Acadia SLT 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,422 miles

Like several others, I get a message on the instrument cluster that says "shift to PARK" even though the gear shift lever is already in PARK

In addition to losing the ability to shut off and lock my car, I must resort to all kinds of theatrics to get the car recognize it is in PARK.
