Canyon 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,589 miles

I own a 2017 GMC Canyon 4 door. I'm having transmission issue with Transmission shudder, it has been in shop three times.

First Time Flush out Transmission at 10589 Miles

Second time replace Transmission Converter at 13065 miles

Third time flush with mobile 1 fluid 31062 miles

My truck has a Rear axle, 3.42 ratio (Requires (LGZ) 3.6L DI DOHC V6 engine or (LWN) 2.8L DI DOHC, Turbo engine.) I'm thinking a 373 or 410 ratio would be better on this transmission. If I keep truck in seventh gear, I do not feel the shudder as bad in some cases.

Is the 3.42 gear ratio too high?

I LOVE THIS TRUCK. GMC Fix it...

Canyon SLT 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,000 miles

On September 2021 the engine light came on, I took to GMC service shop and after 3weeks waiting and $168 charge they cleared the engine light telling me that the ECM need a software update.

Today January 2022 the engine light is back on. I will drop the truck this coming Friday to GMC shop, we will see what is this time.

Canyon SLT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,400 miles

Had a 2016 Canyon with a skip in it. After complaining to GMC for a year they finally let me get a 2017 Canyon. After about 6 months having the new one the truck started skipping going up a small hill or downshifting gears. I am so tired of these issues, I am considering buying a Ford just out of spite, so tired of these problems on a new vehicles

Update from Jul 19, 2018: Exchanged for a 2017 Canyon.. Transmission shifting is all screwed up. Getting worse over. Time.Taking it to dealership next week to get a new converter installed. Hope this solves the problem. If not, my last GMC.

Update from May 13, 2019: GM fixed the skip by replacing the converter and changing transmission fluid. new troubles now the placing gear in reverse. GM has it now and are changing the transmission. this is the 3rd one and truck has about 23000 miles. been in shop for 2 weeks. sick and tired.

Canyon SLE 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,412 miles

The truck first started it around the 4th of July when I noticed it had a steady shake at highway speeds 55-65. I thought it was just the tires out of balance, so took it back to the dealer to have them balance them. Obviously this did nothing to correct the problem. As it went on the shaking got worse and worse to the point of making it very uncomfortable to drive any distance at all. I noticed it would stop shaking when you let off the accelerator and immediately realized it was in the drive train and probably the transmission.

I took it back to the dealer the next week which set up an appointment to "flush the transmission". I knew this was not going to fix this for any length of time. So threatening a Lemon Law action, demanded a new torque converter which "I thought" would fix it. Later found out it's the same torque converter as was taken out. I also voiced my concerns as to the damage already done to the transmission effecting the longevity of the truck. I am still concerned about this.

Since then I have found the supposed new torque converter does not fix the problem! I believe GM should give me a NEW truck with a GOOD transmission - not 8 speed - A TRUCK LIKE I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING WHEN I PAID OVER THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THIS ONE!!! OR GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK PLUS THE MONEY FOR THE TOW PACKAGE UPGRADE I HAD GM TO INSTALL PLUS THE RUNNING BOARDS GM INSTALLED, PLUS EXTRA FOR ALL THE HEADACHE I HAVE HAD TO ENDURE! ESPECIALLY WITH THE "KNOWING" ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY SOLD THE TRUCK TO ME!!!

I cannot believe a company like GM would allow this to continue and just keep putting customers off with excuses until the warranty goes out; which is what is seems that they are doing. SHAME ON GM!!! Oh I realize it would cost them tremendously if they replaced all these vehicles; however it is going to cost them their business reputation if this continues and finally gets out into the mainstream news WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE!!! SO EVERYONE WILL KNOW WHAT KIND OF COMPANY GM IS RUNNING! They may not want to do business with them any longer. Trust is a big issue with something like the vehicle you trust every day to get you and your family from place to place along with using them for other necessary work. When the public loses their trust in GM then so goes the business. If I were them I would be very careful how they handle this as there are a LOT of people out there that "THINK" they can trust GM. When they find out about all the cover ups and lies that have been told on the VERY IMPORTANT issue (we are not talking about anything cosmetic or small problems) This is the TRANSMISSION for heavens sake - without which the vehicle will leave you and your family stranded no telling where in no telling what kind of area. Then there's the underhanded way of putting people off until the warranty goes out!!! This is shameful business practices and I hope it gets out to all the GM buyers and prospective buyers so they will know what kind of people they are dealing with here...
