: the contact stated the electronic mirrors re-adjust without warning. The mirrors should maintain the last setting, but require re-adjustment every time the vehicle is driven. Occasionally the mirrors re-adjust while driving making it difficult to change lanes. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer twice for repairs. The dealer replaced the mirrors and made adjustments to the electrical unit. The problem was only alleviated temporarily by the repairs and the mirrors began malfunctioning again a year ago.... the mirrors will self adjust the settings. While driving the contact looked in the mirrors to change lanes and they were out of adjustment. Had to constantly adjust the mirrors prior to changing lanes. Also, when shutting the vehicle off, and restarted it, had to adjust the mirrors. The mirrors will not hold the set adjustment. In addition, the tailgate could only be opened with the remote, there was no other way to open the tailgate. In a situation where the contact's only exit from the vehicle was from the inside, could not open manually from the inside.

Both power exterior mirrors moved while driving. They would not stay in place. This condition causes poor visibility while driving driving or parking. The dealer was notified.
- Catlettsburg, KY, USA
Exterior power rear view mirrors will not stay in same position. The mirrors are to automatically move into proper position when the key fob is depressed. Majority of the time the mirrors stop in the wrong position.

2002 GMC Envoy the driver side mirror does not retain memory setting for either driver. Could cause an accident by not being in proper position while operating the vehicle.

Electronic side mirrors keep moving.

Engine non-start problems -- waiting 15-20 minutes seems to correct. Wandering side view mirrors. Rubbing noise when turning tightly. Driver's side door movement noise when turning over bumps. Side mirror air noise. The 1st. Two (2) problems have been ongoing, and the most concerning, since the vehicle was purchased new in 2001. It has been in for repairs to two (2) GMC dealers numerous times, and an ignition recall repair was done and the dealer assumed it would correct the non-start problem. It did until yesterday. More importantly however, shortly after this vehicle was purchased, GMC's owner assistance help has been sought for these (2) problems assuming they may inform the dealer of engineering fixes, but to no avail.

First, rainsense windshield wiper equipped vehicle has windshield wipers stop and stutter at least three times on each forward and back cycle when in intermittent mode. Wipers now delay up to 30 seconds at top of cycle (straight up on windshield) and are getting progressively worse. Nearly caused a collision with vehicle in front. Dealer attempted to replace "pulse relay" which did not work and then tech stated they operate normally and customer does not understand function of rainsense feature despite owning vehicle for 2 years without prior issue. Second, right passenger outside mirror randomly changes setting creating a safety hazard during maneuvering of vehicle. Dealer states there is no problem despite fixing at least 5 times prior. Please note prior 19 complaints with NHTSA online out of 200 listed. This would seem to require a recall.

The exterior mirrors malfunctioned, when the vehicle was put into reverse, the mirrors moved downward, however when the vehicle was put into drive, the mirrors failed to return to its original position.

Uncommanded movement of outside rear view mirrors. Drivers and passengers outside rear view memory mirrors wander and do not go back to a previously set positions. Pressing key fob to unlock doors, inserting key into ignition or pressing memory recall button causes mirror movement from preset positions requiring manual readjustments every time vehicle is driven. When using tilt in reverse function, mirrors do not return to initial driving position. Mirrors also drift out of position while highway driving for extended periods of time (mainly driver's side). Vehicle has been to dealer service department 6 times for this particular problem. Both mirrors have been replaced, passenger mirror currently operating properly after replacement. Presented service department with a copy of GM service bulletin 02-08-64-008 dated April 2002 during my last visit (Mar 2003) to have drivers mirror corrected. They stated several other customers have the same problem and GM has directed them to not replace mirrors despite the GM service bulletin. They could not provide any time frame they expect a resolution from GM if any and did not open a service ticket for my vehicles discrepancy during the last visit. Properly adjusted rear view mirrors are a required safety item for all vehicles licensed to be driven on public roads. Malfunctioning mirrors clearly jeopardize public safety and it is obvious from the information available, GM has a safety problem with their product requiring immediate attention and resolution. Any additional information and help resolving this safety issue will be appreciated.

Vehicle 2002 GMC Envoy [xxx] outside rearview mirrors adjust themselves to odd positions almost daily or every time I drive this vehicle. It is necessary for me to stop the vehicle and place the transmission in park and then push the memory button as many as 4 times to get the mirrors in proper position, or adjust the mirror while driving using the joy stick control. The dealer has not been able to correct the problem except asking me to return the vehicle for the 3rd time. Incident date is every day the vehicle is driven thank you information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
