So I started faintly smelling gas from left rear wheel well on my 2004 GMC ENVOY XUV SLT.. It kept getting worse so I decided to take this in to my local mechanic to get checked out. Come to find out this is a common issue with GMC Envoy as this was a poor design but GMC has failed to recall this issue. Gas leaking from the top of the tank and spilling next to the exhaust. I have not paid to have the tank dropped as I don't have money to put into this vehicle right now, it could be the gas tank, could be the fuel pump seal on top of the tank or it could be the filler neck needing replaced also. Called up GMC customer service to ask about it, they simply said, "No Recall, take this to your GM dealership to get an assessment at your own expense" Basically, this is out of the hands of GM even though my car could have caught fire with my family in it.. Bottom line, I am done with GM. They probably wont fix this issue until someone is severely injured.
