problem #3

Dec 172016

Envoy SLT 4.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 107,609 miles

Started with the P0455 code and smelling gas fumes at rear of Envoy. Husband got under it to look for gas leaks and gas all around the inlet check valve connection that fuel filler hose hooks to at rear of gas tank. Check online about this and it appears to be a big problem for a lot of 2003-2004 GM vehicles but the refuse to make it a recall. Beware if you are buying or own GM vehicles in these years.

Was not aware of this problem on my XUV SLT model until it was in the dealership for other warranty work. Replaced under extended service warranty.

GMC and Chevrolet has a Special Coverage Adjustment #07099A. This problem is on 2002 through 2004 Chevrolet Trail Blazers and GMC Envoys. But they only recalled vehicles that end with certain V.I.N. numbers. My vehicle is not with in their VIN breakpoints. I have the same problem with the check engine light on and the smell of gas. I do see where gas has leaked around the neck of the tank. I went to the dealer and to GMC and they are not being truthful about this problem. They say it is not all the vehicles. They are claiming that the gas tanks are made at different plants and not all have the same problem. The gas tanks are made by the same specs and design. There is definitely a problem with all Chevrolet Trail Blazers and GMC Envoys gas tanks. Chevrolet and GMC is not being responsible by not including all VIN numbers. This problem is a major safety issue and should be correct by Chevrolet and GMC with no charge to customers that have this problem that own vehicles with VIN's that are not listed.

Condition

Some customers of 2002-2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL, and 2004 GMC Envoy XUV vehicles may comment on an SES light illumination, which may be accompanied by a fuel odor, and/or a few drops of fuel on the ground when refueling the vehicle. This may be caused by a fracture of a weld on the fuel tank inlet check valve (ICV). The ICV is located above the full fuel level. A fracture in this area may allow fuel vapors to pass through and allow droplets of fuel to accumulate on the side of the fuel tank as it passes over the fracture during refueling. Below is details on the SCA.
