gas pedal stuck and wouldn't stop accelerating

I was getting on the highway and accelerated to 80mph. Then the gas pedal stuck and continued to accelerate on its own. Brakes would not stop it, engine just kept revving over it, and when I pushed the brakes they went stiff. Tried to put it in Neutral or lower gear and it would not stop it. Tried pushing on the pedal to see if it would unstick and that did not work. Called 911 and then I finally turned the car off and it stopped the engine, and car shut off stopping the problem.
