This problem noted below is very very common in both Chevy trailblazers and GMC Envoy. Here's one link with over 200 descriptions of this same problem. www.topix.com/forum/autos/Chevrolet-trailblazer/th8ji6tepo3vrji3D please investigate this issue. It is very widespread and has potential to be dangerous due to cars stalling out in the middle of traffic. I know personally as mine has. Please read on.thank you for you help! 1.) fuel gauge started fluctuating when gas tank is filled. For two weeks gauge would start to move towards empty when in fact tank is full. Then gauge does not work at all or shows empty most of the time, then gauge moves slightly above the point where low fuel light illuminates and the low fuel warning dings frequently as it fluctuates between empty and less than a 1/4 tank. 2.) my Envoy stopped running in middle of highway traffic. The check engine light came on, I had to coast to shoulder in 5 O'clock traffic in southern California. Car did start again after a few minutes computer reset. 3.) I have my car at the shop now. Initial code indicates fuel pump issue. From reading all of the posted complaints this is an issue that should be addressed with a recall.

When I fill up my 2005 GMC Envoy with gas the fuel gauge stays on E, sometimes it will eventually go up to 1/4 tank but always drops back down. This creates a problem because I never really know when my tank is empty, always guessing on when I need to fill up. I have gone to the dealership and they told me it would be about $600 to fix, it is not a warranty issue and not a recall. After doing some research on the internet it appears like this is a big problem and I feel like GMC should do a recall to fix this. This is not a "normal" wear and tear issue on a fairly new vehicle.

The fuel gauge does not work. It reads empty and the gas light comes on after getting gas. The gauge moves up and down while driving for a few days after getting gas. I had the dealer fix this in 02/08. It is already broken again.

Envoy

  • 58,000 miles
I have a 2005 GMC Envoy. The Envoy began experiencing problems at approximately 58, 000 miles when the gas tank began reading empty no matter how much gas was in the tank. Eventually, after much complaining to my local dealership they stated they would only repair the problem if I paid for half of the repairs. I refused. Later, at approximately 80,000 miles, my speedometer began malfunctioning. The speedometer works intermittently, just recently it was stuck at 120 mph even in park. Now, the battery gauge has begun to malfunction. The battery charge ranges from the lowest to the highest with no real rhyme or reason. It is apparent by reading on the internet forums that this is a major product defect as it happens to many, many GMC owners, especially 2002-2005 Envoy owners. I have filed complaints with GMC directly and received responses that are not satisfactory. These items should be a recall effort and repaired by GMC as they are clearly product default not just general ware and tear of the vehicle. These problems are costly and present safety issues while driving.

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. While driving 25 mph, the contact noticed that the low fuel light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact drove to a gas station to fill up the tank; however, the vehicle would only take $10 worth of fuel. The contact is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 41,000 and current mileage was 42,000.

Gas gauge has not worked since 2007. Headlights and some dash lights as well as ext temp gauge sometimes flicker. No positive response from dealer for gas gauge. Was initially told headlights were supposed to do this, a "feature". I asked them to document this for me, they said they would look at it. Replace body control module, no change. Said it could be this or that, but out of warranty at my expense. I told them I would pay for it, but if it did not fix the problem I would not. They refused to work further on it.

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy that is having a known problem with the gas gauge and the sender unit. Apparently numerous customers have been experiencing this issue on their GM SUVS and there has been no recall to fix this issue. There needs to be a recall so customers are having to foot the bill for the manufacturers faulty workmanship.

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact experienced several failures with the fuel gauge in her vehicle. After filling up the vehicle with gasoline, the fuel gauge indicated that the vehicle was empty. After driving on the interstate at an unknown speed, the fuel gauge began to display the correct fuel level. The contact stated that the fuel gauge displays incorrect information during inner city driving. However, once on the interstate, the gauge operates normally after driving for a couple of miles. The manufacturer advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The failure mileage was 68,500 and current mileage was 69,387.

Hello, I purchased a 2005 Envoy denali last year. Right after I got the vehicle the fuel leveling sensor came on (I think 1 of every 2 get this problem and still no recall). I let it go but now its time for inspection! well with the light on it cannot be inspected and they are charging me with what they said could be well over $700. I was doing some research and found this site of many www.topix.com/forum/autos/Chevrolet-trailblazer/th8ji6tepo3vrji3D/P2 of people who are having this same problem. I wish they would stand by there product and have a recall of this because its really a huge problem if I've ever seen one. I am not saying this just because I have this problem but many many people do. Do a ebay list for an Envoy and I guarantee you that you'll see almost half if they show you the dash board has this problem. I did nothing wrong but fill up my tank and I got this error. Let me know if anything in the near future will be done. My inspection is almost up and its a must to get done!

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy that has just started having issues with the fuel gauge. I have filled the gas tank and the gauge reads empty with the fuel light on. Then 10 minutes later the light goes out and it reads that I do have fuel. Then a little later it starts going down and reads empty again. I have re-stopped to get gas to find that the tank is full. This is wrong and there should be a recall on this item. It draws the driver's attention away from driving and must have caused accidents somewhere in the usa.

I have a 2005 Envoy SE and have been having problems with my gas gauge for the past year. Currently the vehicle has 80000 miles on it. The problem is with the gas gauge and it will not work any longer. It seems as if lost pressure and will not read how much gas I have in the vehicle. When I fill up, it will stay on empty and will not move. At times, it will go from empty to about half tank for a few minutes and then it will drop all the way back down to empty.

One day when I filled my gas tank up the gas gauge still showed that my tank was empty. It since then has not worked correctly it goes from empty to half full and so forth, when no fuel has even been added. Definitely can't trust it or you will be walking home. I feel that the manufacturer should correct this problem. I have read many complaints stating this exact same problem.

Right after the warranty ran out on my 05 GMC Envoy the gas gauge started beeping when you would fill up the tank. Then it started to not read full when it was filled. Now it never reads full and when the tank is half empty the light will come on. It will always beep when I first start it. This unit should not have went out after 36,000 miles. This is a faulty unit and I believe the manufacturer should replace it. If I was to replace it myself it would cost me over $500. Terrible product terrible product that should be investigated.

: the contact stated while driving uphill at no particular speed, the engine stalls and operates at a reduced speed. Additionally, the headlights intermittently work at night and the gas gauge provides an incorrect display of the proper fuel level. Although the vehicle was seen by a dealer numerous times, the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. The consumer stated the electrical system is faulty. The left front window dropped the lights became dim and the battery failed. Updated 04/06/06.
