Fuel sensor doesnt work. Started out sporatic now just sticks at quarter tank or empty varies at times.

2005 GMC Envoy fuel gauge sensor. Vehicle has 48,000 miles and when I fill up the gas tank the fuel gauge goes up and down and stays at empty with the light flashing. I never know how much fuel is in the vehicle.

I have a 2005 Envoy and it just started smelling of gas fumes really bad and as I was reading some information on your site I have also agree it is a manufacturing problem you see where it was sealed not by oil clay or any gooey substance of that source its secured by welding I know this because I work for nummi and I was a qc inspector and did the tear down on the gas tanks for safety it sounds like some tanks slip by because not every one is ck there random checks I believe its the O yes O ring that was not properly welded properly causing leaks that is the gas fume I am smelling in my current Envoy (2005).and yes it is a safety issue people can die from these fumes you know it and so due I.let me tell you about what had happen one day there was this gentleman who was on the job and lots of gas tank slip through that day rolling off the assembly line and ship out to dealer ships where the O rings were not holding up during the tear down process of the inspection. Well need less to say the units went out to be sold to consumer.and they wanted to fire the inspector but they just suspended him for a week.another problem occurred on my inspection route in body N weld I had found a split on the floor pan of the corolla very large and hard to see guess I just got lucky but so the manager at that time was a female and she went to the end of the assembly line and sure enough those split had been ship out to the dealer ships they turn a blind eye to the ones that were ship you see if you know nothing about medal it will continue to split of course the carpet cover it who will know.the reminding ones well they place a spot weld on each side of the split and some sealer. With that said I certainly believe the manufacture is certainly responsible and pay for these repairs no matter the mileage or the year. By the way I work in the body-N-weld shop. It is not a ware and tear issue.

On regular basis would add 10 gallons per fill up, then during a long trip filled the tank completely: Which then the fuel gauge showed empty. Then went up to about half. Now after 10 gal. Fill the gauge read empty or about 1/4. have not none much after learning this is a very common GM problem. First time in my life (driving 27 years) ran out of gas right in the middle of a busy 4way intersection, honest truth. Do not want to have my family in car after this incident.

Our 2005 Envoy had a gas gauge malfunction around 2 to 3 years after we bought it as brand new. Good thing it was still covered by our insurance but after a year and a half, the same problem occurred, and it was not covered by the insurance anymore since it's already pass 3 years. Having it fixed is quite costly. I just recently found out that there were 285 people who complained on the same problem. I do hope that GMC will do a recall on 2005 GMC Envoy.

Fuel gauge in my 2005 Envoy quit working after a full tank of gas was put in. The gage goes up and down at its own will. Was told by the dealership that it was a fuel sensory problem and would cost around $600 to fix. They also told me that this is a common problem with GMC vehicles. On one site alone I found 500+ complaints on this issue. I think its time for a recall.

Fuel gauge erratic after warranty expired. Knew it would be expensive repair. Lived on resetting trip odometer every 200 miles and would fill up. This inconvenience lasted two years until constant audio and visual low fuel signals. Ended up paying $450 for repair. Completely confident that GM knew the original was faulty.

I own a 2005 GMC Envoy that is having a known problem with the gas gauge and the sender unit. The check engine light also comes on. Apparently numerous customers have been experiencing this same issue on their GM SUVS. There should be a recall to fix these known manufacturer faulty workmanship issues.

One day I filled up my gas gage and it read empty when I drove away. It has read empty ever since with the exception of moving slightly above E for a few min shortly after filling tank. This happened in Feb 07 and I just have not had the money to drop on a gas gage so I calculate my miles which is extremely inconvenient and I have run out of gas on several occasions.

Fuel level sensor in my 2005 Envoy malfunctioned. Does not register how much fuel is in the tank. This has been an on going problem for months. I noticed an investigation was open in January 2010 but was hoping a recall would have been filed by now. I did research and have noticed there are hundreds and hundreds of the same problem being reported on-line. I just wanted to file my complaint in hopes that something will be done to have this part replaced.

2005 GMC Envoy 4.2 L engine 69K on odometer. Re:erratic fuel gauge reading/set code and ran out of fuel on I -95 @ 1/4 tank reading. Filled up and shows less than 1/2 full. Major safety issue local GM dealer says a common problem. Must replace w/ new updated sender at owners cost.

The fuel gauge became erratic. The first thing that happened was when the fuel tank was filled, the gas gauge went to empty and the fuel light came on as if there were no fuel. It remained that way for some time. It then would fluctuate wildly until a large amount of gas had been used. Now not sure if it is accurate, even though the gas light has gone off and it is no longer displaying as empty.

Item 1: fuel gage located on instrument panel reads empty after tank is filled to maximum, light goes on indicating tank soon to be empty, after fuel is added gage fluctuates often from empty to 3/4 filled then 1/2 tank then back to empty reading which makes me constantly refueling tank.this problem occurs while vehicle is in operation..item 2 speedometer fluctuates reading 80 miles in speed actually no such speed is being driven then returns to zero miles continues to move so erratically. Dealer service advisor stated problem is the fuel sensor suppressor located in the fuel tank, states tank must be dropped down during repair, recommended should replace fuel pump now since tank was accessible good opportunity in replacing also this item and I would be covered with lifetime warranty in future if need of repair. Fuel pump price $480. I declined repair only fuel sensor/suppressor, check speedometer gage. Service advisor stated this item was not recalled or covered, this financially sets me back now since on a set income.this because myself a disabled vietnam veteran. Hope no more problems would be found on my vehicle these. This part alone would cost $380 not including repair charges. Vehicle was in for maintenance service oil change, radiator flush, tune up, transmission service. Personally always have recommend GM vehicles/products to all associates, family, friends & acquaintances. I own a classic original 1947 Pontiac 8 flathead, 4 door streamliner.today just disappointed with these issues may have resulted to accidents leading to bodily injuries, or fatalities. Complaints have been filed with this model among other issues.& concerns. Would appreciate investigation the many complaints on file thru years 2001-2008 make & models also set as priority before any future accidents or deaths occur. My 2005 GMC Envoy gas gauge began to become erratic in November of 09. At that time it would work some times and not others. After a few weeks it stopped working in any manner and constantly fluctuates up and down, causing the low fuel indicator to go on and off. This occurs even when the vehicle has just been filled with gas and the gas cap tightened. The only way to monitor gas at this time is through tracking mileage. Vehicle will randomly stall when idle. The stalling is noted to be occurring more frequently the longer this goes unrepaired. Stalling at lights, in parking lots and while backing up puts us at risk of being hit by another vehicle. Also the inability to accurately monitor the amount of gas in the vehicle puts myself and my family at risk of being stranded while traveling. The only other person I know with this same make and model has the same problem. Correction is replacement of the part which is between $600 and $800.
