Envoy XL 6-cyl

Driving the vehicle on the highway at approximately 75mph, gas gauge went completely down to E with a full tank. The needle was basically reading in the same position as when it is in the off position. After that happened the vehicle speedometer started reading incorrect speeds I will be at a dead stop and at a stop light and my speedometer will be reading 75 mph stuck. I know there was a class action lawsuit in 2007 approximately and listed certain GM vehicles but this one was not included. I think that GM needs to look at this affecting other models and makes they replaced some vehicles with this issue and the problem lies with the step motor in the cluster gauge. If you take the GM dealership they want to charge you $500 dollars to repair on a issue that is being replaced on other models. Please please get this to be recall this is a issue that will cause someone to get hurt very bad in a accident.

While driving on the freeway, my speedometer said I was going slow, so I started to speed up, when I felt I was going to fast and moved to the offramp to slow down, the reading dropped to zero. It worked intermittently for a month and now doesn't work at all but a flicker every now and then.

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy, and the speedometer is broken. Due to research on the web I'm seeing numerous people having the same issue. I have put a call into GM they are total ignorant (&*(*. this is a safety issue and not something I broke on my own or wore out. I have less than 70,000 miles on my vehicle. I called last year when it happened and the lady was one rude '!@#$%!! now this is a major problem. I have to get it fixed for inspection and it's not going to pass with it broken. I have no real income both my husband and I are unemployed!! so where is the money coming from? a credit card I can't pay off to begin with. Our taxes bailed them out, the least they can do is provide a safe vehicle, and the speedometer is not safe. I shouldn't have to pay for defective merchandise/parts!!! help the poor folk here!!! this is a safety problem. It needs to be taken care of at their cost not the poor struggling class of people!!!!

Speedometer stopped working. It now registers speeds much higher then being driven. In addition the fuel gauge stopped working and the needle points to the floor. The dealer states this is a very common problem and that the instrument cluster needs to be replaced for $600. The Envoy only has 48,000 miles on it.

I was returning from lunch, going over the vincent thomas bridge in L.a. harbor. I looked out at the beautiful scenery, then looked at my speedometer. I was going 90 mph. I started to panic and went for the brake. My other senses kicked in and said "your not going 90 mph". I looked around and nothing was wrong with my speed. The speedometer "said" all kinds of numbers. When I parked, I think it said 40mph. That was two months ago. Since then the speedometer has read all kinds of wierd numbers. Sometimes it is actually pretty close, then it goes off the charts to 140mph. I had the dealer check it out, the vehicle has 79,000 miles. The dealer said that GM would cover it up to 70,000 miles. The dealer wanted $325 for the part and $200 to install it. I said no so he charged me $45 to check the electrical. Besides the safety factors, what really bothered me was two things. 1) the dealer made this seem like an isolated case. This situaton is all over the internet. The dealer should have simply said "it's probally a stepper motor, it is a known problem, $ $500 to fix". instead he played dumb and checked over my vehicle for $45. The second thing is, I took the instrument cluster out to take a look. It took me 15 minutes. Where does the dealer come up with $200 the vehicle is substandard. Instead of owning up to the situation, the dealer used this situation to make money. There is a class action suit started and it is proper. GM could fix all these vehicles for less than $50 a piece, if they were smart. Instead there are hundreds, maybe thousands of GM customers who have stated on the internet that they will never buy a GM product again. Go figure!

Dash indicator lights come on and stay on when temperatures are cold, mostly air bag, ABS, parking brake light, all gauges do not work except speedometer. This problem has no trend other than when it is cold outside, could be coincidental. At times the check engine light was on with other lights. My vehicle only had 18,000 miles on it when this started, but the 3 year warranty was over. GMC will not troubleshoot this problem unless I pay them almost $100 to start, and then a hourly fee. At times, these conditions exist and then later the instruments start working. Does not seem to correlate to vehicle temperature. Lights often stay on during entire trip and gauges are all off. When everything suddenly starts working correctly it does not appear to be because of a bump or warming of the vehicle. In December I took vehicle to GMC, and the service representative indicated problems on work order. He put check battery, of course no troubleshooting took place. Since then I have contacted several GMC dealerships, they all want ridiculous fees to check it out. This vehicle has been kept in the heated garage and barely driven until January 2007. I think this is a safety issue because I don't know if it could cause a fire in the wiring. When the gauges are out, it is not possible to see how much gas you have or if oil/water is low. There is no way to monitor the functioning of the vehicle, or the air bags or the brake system.
