I get a letter from GMC making me aware that some 2003 GMC Envoy XL vehicles may contain a fuel tank inlet valve (ICV) that could fracture. The ICV is located above the full fuel level. A fractured ICV could allow fuel vapors to pass through and droplets of fuel to accumulate on the side of the fuel tank as it passes over the fracture during refueling. If the ICV fractures, the vehicle Service Engine Soon (SES) light may illuminate and you may notice a fuel odor or a few drops of fuel on the ground when refueling the vehicle.

Now comes the beauty part of the deal, First it was 10 years or 150,000 miles which ever occurs first. The program has been superseded by a 15 year or 150,000 mile GM Special Coverage Program 14423 In 2015 the vehicles are 12 years old give or take,

Nice job covering yourself GMC...How many 12 year old vehicles has not gone over 150,000 miles on them. Let me help you out with the answer of "Not Many". If you live in a area that requires owning a vehicle to get around then you are out of luck. I wonder if the person who drafted this program lives in a city? Now don't get me wrong I know you can't have a lifetime warranty on everything. But this particular problem should be replaced regardless. Like some of your other readers have said "When I drive the interior reaks the smell of fuel". What a driving experience for owners of GMC products.

When I purchase this GMC vehicle I was screwed because the salesman couldn't follow explanation which resulted an out of pocket expense of over 3k for me but that is another story... Since then I decided first not to ever take my business to that particular dealer again and I've been doing business with this dealer for over 10 years. Now GMC does not need to worry either because of this incident and a few other things that are just terrible craftsmanship/engineering I won't be purchasing anything GM/GMC related again.

Envoy XL SLT I6

  • 155,343 miles

Broken filler neck on fuel tank causing gas to leak when tank is over half full, especially when vehicle is in motion. Called GM and they informed me special coverage allowance expired last year, how nice that GM has put a time line on what their customer's safety is worth. Damn good thing nothing severe has happened as I drove this vehicle with my wife and kids in it. Not happy about having to pay full pop for the tank from the dealer, as that is the only place you can find one. Called several scrap yards in the area hoping to find a good tank. Guess what? They are all broken in the same manner mine is. Way to go GM...

I am completely frustrated with my GMC Envoy. I have discovered that the filler neck weld on the gas tank is cracked and leaking fuel. It is an $800 plus installation cost for a new tank! Shoddy work by GMC is the only reason for this. This needs to be a recall by GMC and now! In searching the internet I've seen many complaints of the same problem. It is unreasonable to expect consumers to bare this excessive cost! It is simply poor quality workmanship and GMC is responsible. I want this fixed by them - NOW!
