Due to the check engine light constantly coming on I was told that I needed a new gas cap. It was stated if the cap is not on properly it affects the emission controls. I have replaced the gas cap several times nothing has changed engine light goes on and off. There still has not been accurate justification for this matter. Vehicle has faulty / leaking air bags on the rear suspension. Upon research this has been a problem on GMC vehicles from 1994 ~ 2006. Why are there no recalls? GMC Envoy vehicle are sitting very low during freezing temperatures. Upon starting the vehicle it will raise back up and level itself but it should not drop down low period. Websites are flooded with complaints. I have contacted GMC regarding all these issues and nothing has been done. I was told there were no recalls regarding these matters which I don't understand. I have viewed so many complaints on several websites regarding these same issues. Exterior lights~ lamps have faulty sockets due to moisture getting inside the lamps / back up lamps. Bulbs burning out continuously. Unfortunately when you take your vehicle to a frequent dealer, many times they'll step outside to check your vehicle quickly without putting you in the system if they feel no service is required. I believe this may be why these complaints are not being addressed/ reported / or recorded. It is apparent there are serious problems with these vehicles. Something needs to be done, and we should not have to deal with repeat manufacturer defects/hazards year after year. It is not fair to us (the customer). They can continually contact you to trade in your vehicle or buy it, but they can't contact you regarding defects on the vehicle. I was told they only notify the original owner of recalls. Again they'll contact you regarding marketing and advertising. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

The airbag warning light would come on immediately as the car was started (and occasionally the seatbelt warning light) and remain on, especially when it is cold outside. Occasionally the light would go off when the car got very warm. My understanding is when the warning light is on the airbags will not deploy. This is a big safety issue as this car is used by my children the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) was found to be defective and needed to be replaced. The old part is available. It seems that this is a part that the manufacturer (GM) should be responsible for since this is not a part that requires owner maintenance and is critical to the car's safety.

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy XL. The contact was traveling 55 mph when an unknown part fractured from under the vehicle, causing the contact to lose control. The vehicle proceeded to roll over three times into a ditch. The contact and one passenger were able to crawl from the vehicle following the crash. The crash shattered the windshield and caused several injuries to the vehicle occupants. The vehicle was destroyed. The air bags did not deploy. The police stated that they were surprised that the occupants survived the crash with the failure of the air bags and the condition of the vehicle. A police report was available. The failure and current mileage was 118,700.

The electrical component for the airbag sensor is located under the drink cup holder.. due to the location of the sensor the sensor gets wet and creates a safety issue by not deploying the air bags when needed..I took my car in to the GMC dealer and was told it was not a recall issue, I was shocked because the mechanic told me it was a safety issue and they had a lot of these issues but GMC decided it was not a safety recall issue..
