very loose steering, the steering wheel gives an inch or 2
So when I acquired this from my father on his passing, it was 2008. He was the original owner of it so we had all original paperwork and repair info for life on this. The steering has always been loose since I took ownership of it. My mother stated they have had it looked at by dealerships and private companies and no one could find anything wrong.. consequently no one would ever take it for a test drive either cause they figured the machines and a fine toothed comb could find the issue. I have asked my local mechanic to take it for a drive and see what could be the issue, but they never would, and could never find any part that was worn down. The dealers have had replaced ball joints, linkage and other parts that would have fixed it. Yet never fixed the problem. So the problem is, driving down the road and the steering wheel will turn about 1-2 inchs either way before you get a firm control of it.. reminded me of driving my old john deere lawn tractor with hydraulic speed, the steering wheel would turn like crazy before the wheels would turn themselves. Or like a golf cart. This is very annoying because when driving at speeds like 35-60 you hit a little dip, bump or turn you have to have better control of the wheel or you may over turn it the steering wheel trying to compensate. I would love for a mechanic to actually test drive this thing and give an honest opinion of what they think is the issue. I love the truck, and with 170,000 miles on it, it drives strong, was out in a foot of snow yesterday ("WINTER STORM JONAS") and it handled well. Thanks for listening, sure wish mechanics these days, actually test drove cars, instead of relying on machines to tell them the problem... some things can never substitute human touch.
