MY DRIVER SEAT HAS A BROKEN LOCKING DEVICE MADE OF PLASTIC. CHECK THE LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP, AND IT COST $366 LEFT SIDE AND $333 ON OTHER SIDE. COMES IN TWO RAIL ASSEMBLY. NOT INCLUDING THE LABOR TO INSTALL.
FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, SEAT ROLLED FORWARD AND MY LEGS HIT THE DASH, THANK HEAVEN I WASN'T DRIVING VERY FAST. I LOCKED THE SEAT BACK IN POSITION AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER. THIS TIME I SKINNED MY LEGS WHERE IT HIT THE DASH.
UPON CHECKING UNDER THE SEAT, I FOUND A SMALL LOCKING DEVICE MADE OF PLASTIC. I THEN WENT TO THE LOCAL GMC DEALER AND HE SHOWED ME THE ITEM ON THE COMPUTER THAT WAS BROKEN. EVERY THING BUT THE LOCKING DEVICE IS METAL.
THE PRICE HE GAVE ME TO REPLACE BOTH SIDES OF THE SEAT ROLLER SYSTEM WAS OVER $700 AND THAT DID NOT INCLUDE THE LABOR CHARGE. NOW THE SEAT IS LOCKED IN PLACE WITH A PAIR OF VICE GRIP PLIERS AND CANNOT BE MOVED FORWARD OR BACKWARDS WITHOUT REMOVING THE PLIERS. JURY RIGGED TO KEEP THE SEAT IN PLACE, AND NOT BE DANGEROUS WHEN STOPPING OR MOVING FORWARD.
WHAT CAN BE DONE TO COMPLETELY FIX THE PROBLEM? W/O COSTING CLOSE TO $1000 FOR A SMALL PIECE OF PLASTIC.? MAKES THE TRUCK LOOK CHEAP, WHICH IS NOT A CHEAP TRUCK. RUNS GREAT, PERFORMS AND LOOKS GREAT..
Update from Aug 6, 2015: Checked with the GMC dealer, and the price was next to
$700.00 just for the rails the seat sits on. OUT OF SIGHT, tried to fix but could not, so I used a pair of vice grips to hold the seat in place. Southern engineering, yes but it works. Talked to dealer and he told me this is an on going problem with GMC and Chev. Pickup trucks, If this is the case, then it should be on recall, even if the truck is almost 20 years old.
