I drive a 2005 Sierra 1500 4 wheel drive. While driving on the freeway the truck went from normal 2 wheel drive (D on the steering column), into neutral. I did nothing to create this action. The situation was extremely dangerous. I did pull off after other drivers almost crashed due to my immediate decrease in speed. Once stopped I attempted to use the steering wheel shift lever to put the truck in drive or park. It would not shift, even with foot on the break. I noticed my 4 wheel drive selector switch was not illuminated. I pushed the 2wd button and it made a terrible noise. I tried the auto 4WD button and then was able to move the steering lever back to park and then to D for drive. Now when I slow to turn the truck drops into low 4 wheel drive which makes the truck slow to 10 mph max. This could get anyone killed even if initially one had plenty of time to turn. There are 100S of forums on the internet dealing with exactly this problem yet nothing is being done. How many people have died because of this problem and not had the chance to tell" how many more must die before anything is done"

I did not have an accident with this vehicle. I am filing the complaint because I have previously taken my vehicle to bob jeannotte Pontiac-GMC truck, Inc., Plymouth, mi 48170 (734) 453-2500 to have an inspection for rusted brake lines as well as rusted frame on the above listed incident date. My invoice # is gccs189900 and my customer assistance provided case # is 71-784-24265. I was told it was normal for the conditions by the dealer rep. This vehicle is having continual rust problems to both the brake lines and frame. I am filing this complaint as I understand there is an ongoing investigation into this problem up to year 2003 and would like my vehicle year to be included in these investigation issues.

A friend was driving my 2005 GMC Sierra crew cab 2wd on October 2, 2010 down the interstate on her way to memphis, tn from ash, nc to pick me up. She had the cruise set at 70mph and all of the sudden the speedometer jumped to 110mph! thankfully she was using a gps unit and was able to tell how fast she was actually going. When she met up with me the next morning I looked at the speedometer with the engine off and on and the needle was stuck at 50-60mph with the vehicle sitting still. On the drive back to nc it read anything from 100-120mph at interstate speeds. Just about 2 weeks prior to this the oil pressure gauge started acting up also. I had a mechanic look at it and he said it was a problem with the instrument panel. I have called the local GM dealer's parts department and have been told the that part is approx $300+ and it is uncertain how long it would be to get one in. If the warehouse does not have one in stock they will have to send mine out for repairs and it could take a week. During this time I will not have a vehicle to drive due to the truck being out of warranty and no recall being issued.

I own a 2005 GMC Sierra and the speedometer has failed. I own a gps so I use this to help determine the speed I am traveling. I brought my vehicle into the dealer on several occasions and contacted GM and they stated they could not help me that I would have to pay $380 to get it repaired. Two days after bringing into my local dealer I received a letter in the mail stating there was a class action lawsuit against GM for defective speedometers on certain makes and models.
