I temporarily had no control over the vehicle causing me to have an accident. While driving down a residential street approaching a stop sign intersection I merged into the center of St to pass a trashcan and in the process of returning to my correct position on the road I suddenly had no steering. Panicking from the loss I pressed my brakes an attempt to bring vehicle to a stop but was unsuccessful because the tires began a slide once noticing the traction loss I proceeded to release brakes and reapply in hopes of gaining traction the brief relief from brakes caused the vehicle to regain traction and while I still have no control over steering, the vehicle jerks towards the right side of the road and the brakes being reapplied the vehicle continues to slide off pavement making contact with stop sign and telephone pole.

During driving, the stability sensors would go off and show up stating stability turned off, or power steering turned off. The voltage on vehicle would suddenly drop from 15 to 9 and then back up. This will usually turn off the interior lights and electronics. I have discussed this with other 2014 Sierra and Silverado owners and they all advised this was occuring on their vehicles. There is a ground wire that was not properly installed under the dash which causes high resistance material to cause electrical issues. During one of my drives to work going 60 mph, the electrical components shut off and caused the engine to stop running. I was able to pull over while coasting on no power and restart the vehicle and it would continue to go. There have been times where the steering wheel would jerk while stationary as well. After many forum discussion this all related back to the ground wire not being properly installed by the manufacturer.

Several times while driving and making turns the vehicle completely died and all electronics went black. This caused a complete loss of steering and control while turning across traffic. The steering wheel would shake and jerk in the opposite direction as well. Once I came to a stop I would have to put it back in park and restart. I am very lucky that that there was no cross traffic in these moments, as this could have led to a major accident. The really frustrating part is that after I took it to the dealer they diagnosed and stated that it was a battery cable of some sort that was melting over the exhaust. This was published as a known problem within the company. However, not a recall or warranty (47,000 miles). How can a known design problem on a relatively new vehicle that causes a complete loss of control while driving not be a recall or safety violation of some sort? I hope this does not fall on deaf ears. Thank you

2014 GMC Sierra currently with 45,000 miles. Vehicle spent 40+ days at dealership in 2016 for vibration while driving between 69-72 mph they could not fix during 6 different service visits. It was under 3 year/36K mile warranty at the time. Began at 22,000 miles. In Nov. 2017 vehicle began losing power steering at speeds under 3 mph, especially in reverse. Also service stabilitrak light has come on randomly at low speeds. Problem was intermittent but is now becoming an almost daily occurrance. Afraid this will lead to an accident. Several close calls already. Radio has also turned off on its on about 5 times in the last 60 days. It will not turn back on until vehicle is re-started. Related or unrelated, while driving at night and applying brake pedal I notice a 1/2 second dimming of headlights and dash lights before they return to normal brightness. Battery and alternator tested fine by dealership. Dealership says vehicle VIN is not subject to any recalls. Dealership wants me to replace power steering gear for $2,500 which they "think" might fix the problem. Don't want to spend $2,500 without certainty it is the problem.

For the past few weeks I have had a power problem on my truck. I have got in the truck and nothing was on and engine wouldn't crank. I would get out of my truck and wiggle the negative line on the battery and the truck would regain power. I cleaned off all corrosion (not anything significant)that was on the connecter. Yesterday as I was taking a turn into my neighborhood the truck lost all power. I was able to cost into a safe spot on the side of the road. I then poped the hood and opened the door. When I opened the door the power came back on. I closed the door started the truck and headed to my house. I am having my truck towed to the nearest dealer. If this had happened to me on the highway or a main road it could have been catastrophic. I have doon some research and found a number of videos and forums on this subject and it seems to be on GM trucks from 2014-2017. I am not a mechanic, but I work in it and am very good at reasearch and troubleshooting issues. My instinct is telling me it is the negative connection to the battery.

When I turn the ignition to start the vehicle, it acts as if the battery is drained. Then there's a message that pops up briefly stating "stabilitrak". I'm concerned this is about to get much worse. The vehicle was stationary at the time of the message.

In the past 4 months, beginning at about 52K miles, I started receiving messages on my truck that said "stability control" was out and it locks the front left wheel, losing all steering, the radio and then the truck goes completely dead. The ac goes on/off and the headlights flicker. This is always at low speeds between 5-10 mph and most commonly when making a turn. I had the battery replaced at the dealership and now they're telling me I need a negative battery cable replacement?

First instance: (this issue happened three times in one day before being able to be repaired) without warning the vehicle lost all power and the motor died while traveling at approx. 35mph for several seconds. When it powered back up everything was reset as if the battery had been disconnected. The dealership found a "loose ground wire" underneath the dashboard and attributed the occurrence to this. Second occurrence: (less than a month later and happened twice within a few minutes) while travelling on the expressway at approx. 70mph and again without warning the vehicle lost all power and the motor died for several seconds. When it powered back up everything was reset as if the battery had been disconnected. This happened again while exiting the highway just moments later at a more moderate speed, again with zero warning. Dealership now states the problem is with the positive battery terminal wire & harness.

Truck has stopped on random occasions since purchased in July 2017. Been to two different dealers who have yet to diagnose issue. Simply loss of steering and electrical power. Each time it goes to dealer, they cannot replicate error. Could be related to recall N172085440 but not sure at this point. Have a video of last instance of issue on August 5, 2017 but unable to load.

My truck loses power steering when turning left and practically comes to a stop mid turn. It takes approx. 5 seconds to be able to continue through the turn. Stabilitrak notifications constantly alert on the dash for traction control, steering assist, etc and when doing slow maneuvering the A/C, stereo, and steering assist shutdown for a split second. Recall is open under N172085440 for 2 weeks now and I know other people experiencing these same safety steering issues waiting for the fix to be published for this recall. Please expedite the recall fix asap!!

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving 10 mph, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle lost electrical power and stalled. In addition, the "reduction power steering control", "engine power reduction", and "hood ajar" indicators displayed. When the contact attempted to turn the vehicle back on, the vehicle initially failed to start and the contact heard a clicking sound. The negative battery terminals also became extremely hot. The vehicle was taken to mark allen Buick GMC (6300 new sapulpa rd, tulsa, ok 74131) where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to mark allen Buick where the dealer stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred several more times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V640000 (electrical system). The approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

Truck has 73,000 miles on it. While driving at approximately 20 mph I applied the brake and had the stabili track warning go off, as well as radio and fan shut off. As I was making a slight left turn the steering wheel jerked out of my hand and locked up, leaving me with absolutely no control of the vehicle in the middle of traffic. The steering wheel would release, jerk and lock repeatedly, it happened about 4 times while trying to regain control. At the same time while applying the brake I had virtually no brakes to stop the vehicle. Looked for recalls and all I found were hundreds of similar complaints, but no solution or recalls. How is this not a recall, it's gross negligence... what if I was at highway speeds or towing my trailer at the time. GM and NHTSA need to address this issue immediately before lives are lost. As for me, I'm in the process of getting rid of a vehicle that I've had for 3 months because of this and will not let my children ride in the vehicle. It's an intermittent problem, I'm just hoping the next time it doesn't happen at 65mph.

Got a steering stability indication while driving across a bumpy strip on the highway. Later, I would get the indicator, and when I did a hard turn, I.e. 90 degrees, the engine would die. The dealership isolated the problem to a broken gear in the electric power assist, and replaced the negative power cable on the battery. The cost of the repair would have been about $3600, but GM paid about 75%. it was recommended that I replace the negative cable every 50,000 miles by one of the technicians. Another problem occurred about a year ago concerning the vapor recovery system. I got a check engine warning, took it to the dealer and found that the whole system was completely coated with fine dust. They replaced the vapor collection canister and associated tubes and filters at a cost of about $800. GM picked up about 50%. I later changed the location of the vapor collection tube from the (very dusty) wheel well, to under the hood where it was protected from the dust. I don't believe either of these problems to be lack of preventive maintenance, because neither appear to be able to be checked or appear on regular maintenance. The vehicle turned off while making a turn at slow speeds, and the warning light came on at driving speeds. Relocating the intake on the vapor recovery system appears to have cured or delayed the onset of the problem. (I also remove and blow out the filter and the intake tube at least once a year.)
