When making a full turn to the left with my 2014 GMC Sierra there is a loud thumping noise that you can also feel in the steering wheel. The problem started periodically and I had a dealership diagnosis. They heard the noise and found no problems. The noise has become more consistent and a third party mechanic believes it to be a steering rack failure. The vehicle can be stationary or moving at parking lot speeds to hear the thump.

Yesterday I was driving home on the highway driving approximately 75mph when without any warning a stability steering control light flashed on the dashboard behind my steering wheel. The car immediately jolted from driving mid 70's down to an immediate 67mph. This speed limit was the last thing that flashed before my dashboard blacked out, the steering column locked and the vehicle entirely lost power while driving. Seconds later my windshield wipers sporadically started moving (I did not engage the switch) and I watched the temperature go up from 70 to 80 without touching the gauge manually. The car jolted for almost 10 miles sporadically losing control intermittently and when I exited off the highway and made a left hand turn at a low speed (under 15mph) the steering completely locked and the car pulled off to the side of the road toward a curb. I gained control of the vehicle manually which was difficult but I did correct the drive path back onto the road. I pulled into the dealership at a low rate of speed and the car did the same thing as it did when I exited the highway. I'm in a loaner and the dealer has my vehicle. This vehicle was purchased used roughly 2 months ago from a registered GMC dealer with 40K miles on it. It now has roughly 44K on it. I have made 1 payment on this vehicle thus far.

Complete loss of power steering along with speed control being disabled when a turn signal is activated. Recall 17V414000 has already been completed and did not correct the problem. Both of these issues occur during the same drive cycle (issues have not happened simultaneously but will both occur at some point during the same drive cycle) they seem to only happen on drive cycles that last longer than 45 minutes.

Power steering recall. I have been in touch with my nearby GMC dealer for the past 2 months attempting to get this recall dealt with and fixed. I need this recall to be resolved no later than 20 Oct 17 in order for my vehicle to be shipped to my new duty station in Alaska as I will be doing a pcs (permanent change of station) for the army. If it can't be resolved by then I need some type of documentation sent to me stating it can't be resolved due to GMC lacking ability to fix the problem or remove the recall from my vehicle. Please email the documentation to [xxx]. very respectfully, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).'

Had the recall for the low maneuver turning issue performed at a dealership when I had my oil changed on August 15, 2017. Less than a week later the issue occurred when turning into the driveway and dealership will not honor my complaint to fix it. The statement I hear is "we can't duplicate the problem" but I'm telling them it happened. Either the procedure to rectify the recall isn't working or they didn't perform it correctly. I need help.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. On several occasions, while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and lost power. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized and excessive force was required to maneuver the vehicle. The contact stated that the stabilink and power steering assist warning indicators illuminated. Also, while making left and right turns, the steering wheel jerked and the vehicle stalled. The contact had to jumpstart the vehicle when the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to rivard Buick GMC (located at 9740 E adamo drive SR60, tampa, fl 33619 (813) 498-2153) where it was diagnosed that the power steering module needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided case number: 8-3174003373. The contact was informed that the complaint would be escalated and that he would hear back within two to three days. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

While parking vehicle I tried to make a slight right turn, the steering wheel jerked out of my hand under extreme force and the vehicle shut off on its own. After the vehicle stopped I tried to turn right a few more times. Every time I did this the steering wheel would turn itself in the opposite direction about a quarter turn and the dash lights would turn off like the computer was reseting. The vehicle would not start right away, but did after turning the key to the off position for a few seconds.

Rounding a corner at low speed and the A/C compressor locked up and stalled the engine. I lost steering and brakes nearly hit a pole. Search for this issue and you will see that GM has a known issue on the 2014 A/C units that they are doing nothing about

My truck loses power steering when turning left and practically comes to a stop mid turn. It takes approx. 5 seconds to be able to continue through the turn. Stabilitrak notifications constantly alert on the dash for traction control, steering assist, etc and when doing slow maneuvering the A/C, stereo, and steering assist shutdown for a split second. Recall is open under N172085440 for 2 weeks now and I know other people experiencing these same safety steering issues waiting for the fix to be published for this recall. Please expedite the recall fix asap!!

When I am making left turns my stabilitrak warning goes off and locks up my steering wheel and won't allow me to turn and jerks the wheel which has caused a dislocated thumb and jammed fingers, it also powers down my entire electrical system. I have had several close calls with some serious accidents. I have almost been T-boned several times due to it powering down and not being able to turn. I have called the GM dealership and they said there is nothing we can do about this and they are aware of the recall. It's going to be a hefty lawsuit on their hands when someone is seriously hurt or dies because their steering wheel locks up. Early June is when I started noticing this issue and it has only been getting worse!

I was leaving a store parking lot and began a left turn when the steering wheel was wrenched out of my hands as it spun around causing my truck to veer sharply to the left and to hit another stationary vehicle. GMC service department said the steering was broken and proceeded to replace the steering module. I retained the old module as evidence the tie rod became disconnected causing the accident. No one was seriously injured although I has the skin on my hand and forearm rubbed off by the steering wheel.

Truck has 73,000 miles on it. While driving at approximately 20 mph I applied the brake and had the stabili track warning go off, as well as radio and fan shut off. As I was making a slight left turn the steering wheel jerked out of my hand and locked up, leaving me with absolutely no control of the vehicle in the middle of traffic. The steering wheel would release, jerk and lock repeatedly, it happened about 4 times while trying to regain control. At the same time while applying the brake I had virtually no brakes to stop the vehicle. Looked for recalls and all I found were hundreds of similar complaints, but no solution or recalls. How is this not a recall, it's gross negligence... what if I was at highway speeds or towing my trailer at the time. GM and NHTSA need to address this issue immediately before lives are lost. As for me, I'm in the process of getting rid of a vehicle that I've had for 3 months because of this and will not let my children ride in the vehicle. It's an intermittent problem, I'm just hoping the next time it doesn't happen at 65mph.

Got a steering stability indication while driving across a bumpy strip on the highway. Later, I would get the indicator, and when I did a hard turn, I.e. 90 degrees, the engine would die. The dealership isolated the problem to a broken gear in the electric power assist, and replaced the negative power cable on the battery. The cost of the repair would have been about $3600, but GM paid about 75%. it was recommended that I replace the negative cable every 50,000 miles by one of the technicians. Another problem occurred about a year ago concerning the vapor recovery system. I got a check engine warning, took it to the dealer and found that the whole system was completely coated with fine dust. They replaced the vapor collection canister and associated tubes and filters at a cost of about $800. GM picked up about 50%. I later changed the location of the vapor collection tube from the (very dusty) wheel well, to under the hood where it was protected from the dust. I don't believe either of these problems to be lack of preventive maintenance, because neither appear to be able to be checked or appear on regular maintenance. The vehicle turned off while making a turn at slow speeds, and the warning light came on at driving speeds. Relocating the intake on the vapor recovery system appears to have cured or delayed the onset of the problem. (I also remove and blow out the filter and the intake tube at least once a year.)

Driving at low speeds in rush hour traffic and "degraded steering" warning with chime sounded. Cleared itself and then chimed again with same warning about three minutes later. This was followed by stabilitrack warning and red brake warning. Steering was somewhat harder to turn but was still being assisted. There didn't appear to be any degradation to braking. Maybe the anti-lock system? the A/C then turned off and the radio volume went silent. The stabilitrack switch, A/C controls and radio controls were all ineffective. I noticed the amp gauge was below 12 as it seemed as if the truck electrical system was underpowered. I drove ten miles home and all systems reset by turning truck off and starting it up again. This is first time this has happened. Truck has 66K miles on it.
