Shake, rattle, ping........service engine light flashes and power loss.
Back from the garage, replaced the right side lifters.......again!
First issue was at 4,500 miles July 2022. That was under warranty and 3 weeks in the shop.
Today, 16 Apr 24.....Out of warranty, out of my pocket. $3,000
It's time for GM to recall!

Purchased a new truck so I wouldn't have to worry about fixing it..........NOT.
4,500 miles into this new truck it stalled and had to be flat trailered back to the GMC dealer.
Replaced all the rods/lifters........under warranty.
Now 16 Apr 24, not under warranty and same issue. Just finished paying 3K to have it fixed out of my pocket with 50,000 miles.
Do I start budgeting for this every year?

IN SHORT.....
Purchased a 2021 GMC 4X4 Elevation on 12/31/2020. Engine stopped running 6/15/2021. Mileage at 3500 miles. Replaced the Right bank of Lifters/Rods. Truck out of service 2 weeks. No Loaner! Still Paid lease cost of $700/month.
On 1/3/2022, 6 months later, engine stops running. Mileage at 7400 miles. Left bank of lifters and rods defective. GMC p[olicy now, replace both banks of lifters/rods. Out of service at least 3 weeks as there is a back order of necessary parts. I am pissed!! I need 4X4 for the Utah Snow with a wife and daughter that need me to transport them every day. I am retired and spent a fortune on the beautiful 5.3 L V8 to last me a long time. Now I am driving an older loaner/rental Chevy Impala LT as GMC will not rent loaner 4X4s to replace mine. Still need to pay the $700/month lease while its in shop by no fault of mine. GM knew about these problems and never warned or advised me before I leased it. I want in on the Class Action Suit for this problem.

GM only authorized repairing one bank after failure even though dealers had been instructed in Nov. of 2021 to replace both banks on undelivered vehicles, (thereby acknowledging future failure potential of both banks). DFM lifter failure is a known problem with these engines (L84/L87) at GM.
I twice requested in writing that GM extend my Power Train warranty to cover potential future lifter failure (after all if there is no additional failure it doesn't cost them anything) and they stated that "they don't do that".
They suggested that I purchase an aftermarket warranty on my own. My original warranty is up at the end of this November (2025). So I either spend a few thousand on an aftermarket extended warranty or get rid of an otherwise almost new (16,000 mi) truck. GM really does "Suck" at customer relations.
