Sierra 2500 8-cyl

  • 58,771 miles
While driving to work approaching an intersection the car in front of me signaled to turn right last minute and applied the brakes, I also applied the brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor. If I didn't have enough following distance I would have crashed right in to the car. I only had about 1/2 inch of brake pedal and drove in low gear very carefully the rest of the short distance to work. When I got out of the truck I saw brake fluid pouring out of the brake lines below the drivers side door and they were completely rusted out. Upon further inspection I realized all my brake lines were rusty on a nine year old vehicle, I never saw anything like this before. I had to get the vehicle towed and repaired at a local garage that charged me $1,547.61 to replace all the lines and did a horrible job. I had called the GMC dealer I dealt with in the past and they were inundated with recall work and had at least a 2 week wait and another GM dealer that GMC customer service provided me and they were also all booked up with recall work and so I was forced to trust a local shop. This a safety issue that could get people killed, I always have my wife and kids in the truck and it was a death trap. In talking to GMC reps is seems they have no intention to reimburse me for this premature and accelerated rusting condition that could have caused me or someone else their life.

Sierra 2500 8-cyl

  • 50,000 miles
I bought my GMC Sierra 2500 in June of 2005. Shortly after I bought the truck I started to notice rust on the trailer hitch and frame rails. As the years have gone by, the entire undercarriage is rusted over. Over the last several years a brake line rusted through and the brake pads & rotors have been replaced several times. I was lucky to be picking my truck up from the shop after an oil change & not driving it, when I noticed brake fluid on the ground under my truck.my speedometer does not work properly & the dashboard lighting works occasionally. My trailer hitch rusted so bad that the last time I put the receiver into the hitch it was stuck & I had to get a friend to connect a chain to his truck & while I drove forward & he reversed, the receiver finally broke free after approx. 10 minutes.

Sierra 2500 8-cyl Diesel

  • 38,391 miles
After putting the vehicle in park and proceeding down my driveway, the ABS lights began flashing and chiming on the dash. I pushed the brake pedal and it went to the floor. I stopped the vehicle with the emergency brake. I got out of the vehicle and noticed brake fluid dripping underneath the truck. I crawled under the truck and found the left rear brake line had corroded through just above the fuel tank. I called the dealer and he stated this is a known defect from GM. He said I needed all brake lines replaced and GM's new parts had an extra coating to prevent corrosion. It cost me $1100. This type of failure seems way too soon for a truck with 38,000 miles.

Sierra 2500 8-cyl Diesel

  • 35,000 miles
Started the truck and applied the brakes to shift into gear and the brake pedal went to the floor. After several times pressing the pedal there was no brakes at all. The truck was towed to the dealer where I was informed all the brake line were rusted and needed to be replaced at a cost of $1,300. The truck only had 35,000 miles on it. If I had been driving, I am sure this would have likely caused a serious accident.

Sierra 2500 4WD 8-cyl

  • 40,650 miles
The 2005 GMC 2500hd fwd (well maintained and oiled to prevent corrosion) experienced a failure while towing my 24' pursuit fishing boat (7200 lbs.) home from sturgeon point marina to hamburg, NY 14075 (approximately 10 miles) with "minimal" stopping capability as the dot 3 brake fluid was being expelled. I had to feature the throttle to negotiate stopping senarios without issue. As of 8/20/12, this vehicle is with fuccillo Chevrolet, Inc. (grand island, NY) for overhaul of entire braking system; including fuel lines. The certified technician suggested the entire brake lines system be replaced along with the fuel lines due to extreme corrosion. All this work is being performed since the excellent condition of the vehicle.the estimate for this work is approximately $2250 to replace all lines (brake / gas) affected by severe corrosion. This condition is a result of poor material selection not capable of withstanding normal winter conditions found in the northeast. The same standards should be used as selecting exhaust system material. Brakes can kill you....exhaust systems can not! final note: Truck driven 50 miles per week to work (10 miles each day). During winter months, the residual salt is rinsed as required on a weekly basis (or sooner) to prevent corrosion. This truck prior to winter driving has had oil applied to the underframe, apparently, the brake / fuel line where not adequately treated.
