Sierra 2500 8-cyl Diesel

Vehicle- 2006 GMC Sierra 2500hd 4X4 duramax/allison there is a very noticeable clunk/looseness in the steering. I have greased/lubricated the whole steering mechanism with no reduction in the problem. My fear is the looseness will result in a complete failure or loss of steering. Prior to that I fear poor driving/maneuver ability while this issue persist.
