Prior to leaving on a 6 week road trip we noticed that we didn't have any XM Radio reception, only channel 1, which is the reset channel. Contacted XM Radio they tried to make the fix over the air but all efforts were in vain. XM Radio asked me to take it to my local dealer and they should be able to correct the problem. My local dealer is 65 miles in the opposite direction of our intended road trip. I called the dealership and they advised they knew of similar problems and I could take it into any GMC dealer along our route of travel.
While in Lake Orion, Michigan I made an appointment with a local dealer to get the fix. Their response was "UNABLE TO ACTIVATE THE XM RADIO WILL CHECKOUT AND DIAG. FOUND DDR WON'T RESET" AND CHARGED ME $109.00 FORTHE LABOR AND PARTS TO DO NOTHING.
I WAS ADVISED THAT A NEW DIGITAL RADIO RECEIVER (DDR) WAS MY ONLY RESOLUTION. THIS WOULD COST ME $590.00. Thinking I was being fed a line of B/S I called GMC customer service @ 1-866-790-5700 ext. 591141. They issued me a complaint #8-1609852322 and advised they would be back in touch within the next 24 hours. A representative (Daniel) called, unfortunately we were on the road and I couldn't get pulled over fast enough to take her call. She left a voice mail asking me to return her call ASAP. I did just that while we were stopped and was advised by her voice mail that she would return the call within 24hrs. Since that call I tried on 4 other occasion to connect with Daniel all attempts were in vane.
We use this vehicle 3 or 4 times a year to tow our 24ft 5th wheel, the vehicle sits unused the rest of the time.
I can still use the OnStar feature and receive monthly reports of my vehicles performance condition. The AM-FM and CD player work just fine and I am able to contact OnStar at any time using the radio.
Mostly I am upset with the follow up by GMC to resolve the problem or return my call. I can't see why I need to replace the (DDC) if all other digital operations and communications work just fine.
If anyone has any advise on how I can resolve this problem I would really appreciate..
