forward collision system not working

The system that tells how far the car ahead of you is has quit working. It shows on the center console the vehicle ahead of you as green all the time. The system starting working the next day then quit again. Forward collision assist isn't quite working. Took it in the shop where they have not fixed it yet after 4 days.
