Well it appears that there are several complaints on here about the 2011 Terrain stalling. It's been happening to me off and on the past several months. I would be in traffic and it would stall, I would be at a stop light and it would stall, I would go to back out of my driveway and it would stall. I took it in and they can't find anything wrong. Well last night it finally died. Great!! I heard noise when I started the vehicle that sounded like plastic water bottles rubbing together. I had a bag in my front seat so assumed it was nothing. It bucked forward as I put it into drive and stalled. Well...the stalling I'd become accustomed to so I re-started. It seemed fine until I went to accelerate onto the main road...it bucked, started shuttering, and wouldn't go above 5 mph. I barely got it into a parking lot before it died. I counted no less than 5 similar reports on here. I live in the metro detroit area...had this happened on a highway or during rush hour, I could've been killed. Someone needs to do something before GMC has yet another scandal on their hands or how many people have to be hurt, maimed, or killed before NHTSA gets involved??

2011 GMC Terrain. Consumer writes in regards to engine problems and several other issues with vehicle. The consumer stated the district manager of GM refused to allow the dealer to check the ECM/ECU and other appropriate systems, to make sure all the engine settings were as they should be, since he experienced several strange events, such as the shifter hanging in D sometimes as he tried to move to park, very low mpg for several days 24-25 mpg, when he usually got 28-33 mpg. The oil percent meter used to be at 95%. the engine would rev to 7K-8K RPM when the first started and held 2-3 seconds. Sometimes the engine revved to 1600-1800 RPM and the vehicle would almost stall, and sometimes the malfunction indicator light would illuminate on the instrument panel. Soon after, the fan belt began to squeal. The squealing began, when the vehicle was started or when driving at various speeds with the ac on, and going up some slopped highways, roads and streets. The dealer replaced the belt. In the summer of 2011, when the vehicle was started the engine would make a chattering-tapping metal-to-metal sound, as it there were no oil in the engine. The problem would occur with a cold or hot engine. The problem stopped after P0011 error solenoid was replaced.

I purchased this Terrain as the 99 GMC pickup that I purchased from sheehan had 3 total brake failures and a power steering cooler fail all due to corrosion. I was afraid to drive the 99 after the 3rd total brake failure. This is when I purchased this vehicle in November 2011. Since then due to corrosion they replaced all the wheels on the vehicle and the other day I started smelling gasoline. I took the vehicle to sheehan. They found a fuel line under the vehicle leaking as it had rusted through. I asked the service person what they did to correct this problem. I was told they replace the fuel line with the same type that had just rusted through. I asked them why they did not use stainless steel. I was told they do not do that. I now do not feel comfortable of driving this vehicle. The vehicle has not even been paid off yet and only has approximately 7000 miles on it. I have begun shopping for a non-General Motors vehicle as I do not feel save driving this one.

The engine or fuel system show a severe malfunction. When at a stop light, the RPM's drop so much that it shuts down sometimes, some others, it barely stays on. I called the dealership and told me that it was not a warranty covered repair and that I had to pay for the diagnostic plus whatever was wrong to repair (parts and/or labor). All of the sudden, now the "stability trac" check light goes on an off without apparent cause. I feel like I'm driving a vehicle from the 1950's. it's a great looking comfortable SUV, but very disappointed with performance and fuel consumption.

Soon after buying my 2011 GMC Terrain, 4 cyl, a rattle developed in engine on start up. After months of returning to dealer, they said a tech bulletin now existed and fixed problem. Problem was solved, a month or so later, problem returned. I returned to dealer and they said nothing they could do. At the same time I was complaining about gas mileage, 20 mpg on highway, 17 city. I called GM customer satisfaction detroit, and had many discussions with them. Finally told me don't bother us any more about two problems, and to this point no resolution to either problem.

The contact owns a 2011 GMC Terrain. While attempting to refuel the vehicle, gasoline fuel spilled out of the fuel tank. The dealer made six attempts to duplicate the failure by straightening the fuel hose, replacing the fuel tank and the filter however, none of the repairs corrected the failure. The dealer has had offered any further assistance since they informed the contact that the vehicle was operating as designed. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The current mileage was 7,200 and the failure mileage was 2,400.

I bought my 2011 AWD 4 cyl. Terrain in July, 2011. I traded my GMC acadia in on this vehicle. I down sized to get better gas mileage. It stated that it should get 20 city & 30 hwy. I have never came close. I took it to the dealer and they said it is running fine. Mpg at 22. I don't know what we all have to do to get GM to do something about this but something needs to be done.they have pretty much lied to all of us and anyone that is thinking about buying one. We need to get the word out about this vehicle. Don't buy it for the gas mileage because it don't get what it states!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think GM should do something about this or reimburse us for the difference that we would get with the correct gas mileage. Maybe this will get a recall on these vehicles.

The gas fill tube tends to allow the gas nozzle to pop out when filling. Have never seen this on other vehicles. I have to hold the nozzle to make sure it does not pop out.

We purchased the GMC Terrain with the 4 cylinder engine for the gas mileage of 32 mpg, after getting only 26 mpg we called GMC and took the Terrain in for service. Also filed complaint with GMC. Was told their was nothing they could do. The engine makes noises and runs rough and stalls at times mostly in the mornings. After service now we get only 25 mpg.

I have a 2.5 month old 2011 GMC Terrain. At 4984 miles it is in the shop for stalling, for a horrible rattle upon start up, and for it jerking between first and second gear. When I took it in this morning it had stalled six times within the past 2 days. It stalls after start-up in forward and reverse and it stalled three times while in idle in a fast food drive-thru. There is also the rattling which happens on cold and warm starts, whether the A/C or eco mode are on. It sounds like metal rattling and like it is harming the engine. The least of my worries, is the fact that between 25-35 miles an hour the transmission shifts very hard and kicks myself and passengers forward. Apparently there is a tech bulletin that has been out for the rattle for several months. Why not fix them before they sell them? also, there is a recall #11195 for "rough idle, poor driveability" that doesn't show up on the NHTSA site or anywhere else but the GMC dealer's computer. Additionally, despite the claims, I have never gotten better than 21 mpg while driving this car including an all highway trip from Michigan to Indiana. I think it is false advertising and the fuel economy in eco or not is not what they claim when the Y sold the vehicle to me.

This vehicle boggs down when giving it gas and will often cut off after stopping for no reason. There is a noise when you start the vehicle (like a clicking noise). The vehicle do not get the 32 mpg as what is stated, I get about 20 mpg highway. The gas needle does not work properly. I will fill up and still show 1/4 short. The leather seats are buckling and dealer says its normal but know others with leather seats & not happening to them. Recently took in for "service engine" light and malfunction light. This is new car & none of these issues should be happening this soon. I feel like it's a "lemon" and dealer is no help and these problems will compound as car gets older and warranty is over I will be out of luck. Unhappy customer.

Vehicle is not delivering the epa fuel economy performance rated. The GMC terrian fwd 4cyl is rated 22 city, 32 hwy, and 26 overall. I drive 30% of my miles in the city and 70% hwy. My vehicle has 5000 miles and I am experiencing 17 city, 22 hwy, and 20 overall. All well below the expected range. I am a very conservative driver, no jack rabbitt starts at stop lights, use cruise control. I have complained twice to GMC and was told it takes apx 5000 miles to "break in" the vehicle. I now have 5000 miles and am now being told to use high octane fuel. Fuel performance is so poor I suspect a gas leak or some faulty component that may be potentially dangerous due to the excess consumption of fuel well beyond the controlled epa estimates.

3 problems with my 2011 GMC Terrain AWD, 2.4 liter 1. poor gas mileage - averaging 18.8 miles for a vehicle rated 20 city, 29 hwy. I drive 42 miles daily, 4 city, 38 hwy. Dealer checked, no codes and states "operating as per deigned intent" 2. jerky transmission shifts and severe hesitation on startup and slow speeds in eco mode. Dealer checked, no codes and states "operating as per deigned intent" 3. engine "knock" on startup that last from 3 to 10 seconds, normally on "cold" startup. Dealer checked and could not duplicate complaint, checked cam phaser screens per service bulletin and states no debris is present. Dealer states no codes are present and nothing they can do. Oil and oil filter were changed at my request. Engine knock and poor gas mileage still exist, transmission issue seems to have changed to normal and slightly hard shifting now after dealer visit.

My 2011 GMC Terrain has a 2.4L 4 cylinder front wheel drive. It is rated at 32 mpg highway. Since day 1 I have not even gotten close to this. I drive 100 miles a day and maybe 5 miles of it is considered city driving. I am getting 20 to 22 mpg. I contacted GMC and they had me take it in to be checked out. The dealership hooked it up to there computer and said that everything is the way it should be. They then told GMC that it is winter now and fuel mileage will drop due to cold weather. I agree with that but not 10 miles to the gallon. Maybe 2 or 3 at the most. I cant get them to do anything about it, I am tired of having to pay out extra money for gas when this vehicle is not performing to its expectations.
