Already replaced both struts (including hydraulic strut) and interior liftgate switch at a cost of about $900 to address the liftgate failure, when the dealer then informed me the hydraulic pump was the issue but that GM had discontinued the part. I spent a couple of hours trying to find an official gm replacement part (about $700 just for the part) and was able to order twice before the orders were cancelled because GM had discontinued the part.
I did find a replacement pump online for around $100 that is "guaranteed to fit" but dealer will not install non-GM part. I'm now looking for videos on how to install the pump, including how to fill it with hydraulic fluid prior to installation. The dealer told me they would not install a non-GM part.
Here's the crazy thing. This part was used on the GMC Terrain and the Chevy Equinox for several years, and these are not unpopular SUV models. But GM discontinued the part? The car designs for the GMC Terrain and the Chevy Equinox have no key option to open the liftgate if it fails. You must crawl into the back and pop a screw cover on the liftgate before removing the screw to release the liftgate latch. I contacted GM directly about a proposed solution and there was none. Losing a liftgate on an SUV is a pretty major thing. It's like not being able to open a trunk on a car. I'm just hoping I can find someone to install the non-GM part for me.
