Terrain SLE 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 126,518 miles

On December 26th, 2022, while driving down to Indianapolis, Indiana from Anderson, Indiana on Pendleton Pike, I noticed that my check engine light came while driving through Ingalls.I pulled over in Fortville, that was about 3 to 5 miles away from where my check engine light went off at. This was the ONLY warning that something may be wrong with my Terrain. My son got out to check under the hood and didn't notice anything amiss while the engine was running as well as when it was turned off. He returned to the car and we proceeded down to Indianapolis to celebrate Christmas with family. The check engine light came right back on when I started the car once again. NO other warning light that my oil pressures was low..NOTHING.

I drove approximately another 10 to 15 miles. By this time, we were inside the city limits of Indianapolis on the east side when I noticed a clicking/ticking sound. I no sooner turned the car radio down to confirm what I was hearing when I received notification that my engine was losing power along with a stabilitrak warning. I quickly pulled over. My son checked under our hood to see if a belt had broken. There were no broken belts. A friend came to help and he listened to my engine, he thought at worst it was my alternator. Unfortunately, it wasn't. My mechanic informed me that something had broke between the engine and the transmission that there was no oil in my engine even though it was reading at 29% which I don't understand being that I wasn't quite due for an oil change and especially when it was still reading at 29%......so why would I even suspect that my engine was low on oil? I received NO low oil pressure reading/warning?

PLEASE, please, please if you have had a similar experience don't just vent HERE. Please go to https://www.nhtsa.gov/ and click on "Report A Safety Problem" so that this issue with our Terrains can be recalled. The fix will be free! It's NOT too late if you have already paid to have a new engine put in, KEEP your receipts so if and when you will more than likely be reimbursed.

This IS a SAFETY issue! It's NOT safe to be driving our Terrains! I do NOT even want to think about what may have happened if my son and I had been on the interstate going 70m.p.h. and to have received in less than 10 secs of turning my radio station down to confirm a noise I heard then that quickly receive an engine losing power message of what could have happened to us.

Terrain 4 cyl

Check engine light had come on prior , but cleared with gas cap. Vehicle ran rough a few times. Lost engine power during reverse drive , restarted. check engine light on. Rechecked after few blocks, engine running rough. Engine cutting out but restarting easily. Rechecked after 1/2 mile before getting on highway at night. Luckily - I was in parking lot. Vehicle cuts out when placed in gear (forward/reverse) , cuts engine off totally disabling. Very similar to GM Pontiac Grand Am 1988 model issues. Heard other people with GMC terrains had issues with transmission/engine.

Luckily - I stopped before getting on highway.. as an incident could have cause a major hazard or cause an accident.

GM Dealer in indicated 3 error codes P0411,P0010. fOUND gmc BULLETIN 18-NA-061 . I Part nbr 12679099 vlave 0.736 covered by warranty. Issue list as 2nd air injection air flow bad, moisture in 2nd air injection hose, debris in 2nd air injection check valve adapters and ports. Cleaned heads. Oil change.

Bought this vehicle used with 1 prior owner per GM dealer. I plan to check vehicle history to make sure prior complaints for this vehicle are not on record.

I had major issues similar with Grand Am 4 cyclinder . Knowing my vehicle has a chronic illness with potential future issues. Ouch! Now have major loss of faith .

Terrain LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 104,500 miles

My family was traveling to a funeral when it was -2 outside and the Terrain suddenly stopped in the middle of a busy intersection. The engine light came on and the low oil pressure light came on. I had to dodge cars and put on my emergency flashers to avoid being hit. My daughter and I were in the car alone. When I looked under the Terrain, the oil lines had spilled on the road. I had to leave my Terrain in the middle of the intersection because I was afraid of being hit.

We walked to a nearby gas station to stay warm and wait for a tow truck. When we arrived at the mechanic he said the seals had busted between the engine and transmission. He said I would need a new engine. So I had the engine replaced and was out 5200 and a car to drive to work. This was such a horrible experience, and could have been a bad wreck. Please fix this problem. I love my Terrain but I don't need engines problems that jeopardize my family.

Terrain SLE 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

This is my girlfriends car and as she was leaving the gas station the car died three different times when accelerating. After the third time some miracle happened and made it home. Took the car to AutoZone to read engine light which came up as P0010 intake camshaft position actuator circuit bank 1. Replace this and the car runs fine, but there is no warning when this part goes bad and is dangerous as it shuts off when driving.

Terrain SLE-2 4 cyl

I was driving my 2014 GMC Terrain down interstate 90 In New York doing 65 mph when my engine quit running. No power steering. Good thing I wasn’t going around a bend or I would not be here writing this. I have also had it stall backing up in a parking lot. Very unsafe afraid to drive especially with a toddler and a newborn. Only has 63k miles. GMC better figure this out. Last time I buy a GM product. Been telling everyone about my issue. Recall this immediately!

Today my car stalled when I slowed down and completely shut off each time I slowed down. Eventually the check engine light came on. Not sure what the issue is. Even though my vehicle is a 2014; with less than 37,000, I’m perplexed by my vehicle having this issue. Really afraid to drive. Will take it to the dealership.
