My vehicle started shaking & stalling really badly out of nowhere on June, 2025. Had to have it towed to our mechanic They said the engine was gone and would need to be replaced. We got timely oil changes and everything on this engine, inside and outside of the vehicle are in great shape. The check engine light nor any other warning light ever came on when this happened. After checking online we have discovered the engine in my car, the 2.4 L engine on the 2014 - 2017 models of the GMC Terrain has known defects which although GMC has known about, they have done nothing to address the issue.
We had no prior warning that the engine was failing, not a light came on. It was very sudden and I was in traffic when this happened putting both my safety and the safety of other drivers and pedestrians in danger. This vehicle has been well maintained and has had no significant issues. Bought used, still making payments and now they are telling me almost $11,000 dollars to repair, because the warranty will only cover 3,000. Only to find out from almost every mechanic that the GMC is known for blown engines and it happens a lot. GMC should be ashamed of themselves. My husband and I are seniors and are on a fixed income. This is a near tragedy for us. We will have to make payments on a car that cannot be fixed. The repair is more than the car is worth. Thanks for nothing GMC - Sincerely Cathy R, Whiting NJ
